Sungguh mencengangkan dan menegangkan apabila dipahami bahwa ternyata kegiatan eksploitasi seksual pada anak sering terjadi dan dilakukan di berbagai kota di Indonesia. Parahnya para pelaku mempergunakan fasilitas teknologi Internet yang memang saat ini menjadi the 2nd of life (meminjam istilah dari Petrus Golose) bagi para penggunanya. Media-media social networking, chat room facilities, ataupun fasilitas lainnya yang diberikan melalui internet ternyata menjadi incaran dan sasaran pelaku untuk menemukan dan menjerat korban, khususnya anak.
Berdasarkan Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography , menjelaskan bentuk-bentuk eksploitasi pada anak. Yang dimaksud dengan:
Sale of children means any act or transaction whereby a child is transferred by any person or group of persons to another for remuneration or any other consideration
Child prostitution means the use of a child in sexual activities for remuneration or any other form of consideration
Child pornography means any representation, by whatever means, of a child engaged in real or simulatetd explicit sexual activities or any representation of the sexual parts of a child for primarily sexual purposes.
