In observing fasting, one is required to refrain from eating, drinking, and actions that can break the fast from sunrise to sunset. By refraining from these things, a person will be encouraged to be more sensitive to the needs of others and increase his spiritual awareness.
In Islam, building spiritual awareness can be done by reading and memorizing the Quran (QS. Shad (38), verse 29). Â The Qur'an was revealed with two purposes, namely tadabur (to gain new understanding) and tadzakur (to get out of the state of neglect and forgetfulness). Therefore, reading and memorizing the Quran is not only to acquire new knowledge and direction, but also to build awareness and the desire to always remember and be aware.
In addition, the holy verses of the Quran can also be a motivation and encouragement in facing life's difficulties (Yusuf;87). As Muslims, we are commanded to read the words of Allah written in the Quran. Some verses of the Quran that can be an encouragement again when you are sad or experiencing difficulties in life include the verse Yusuf: 87 which explains that every time we are still given breath, it means there will always be hope. In facing life's challenges, trying your best with prayer is the best way to gain hope and encouragement.
By reading and memorizing the Quran and drawing wisdom from the holy verses, Muslims can build spiritual awareness and spirit in the face of life's difficulties.
2). Strengthening a Relationship with God
Fasting in Ramadan is also a way to strengthen man's relationship with God. In fasting, a person focuses on worship and tries to abstain from things that can hinder his relationship with the Creator. This can help a person to draw closer to God and feel His presence in his life.
In Islam, there are several ways to strengthen the relationship with Allah Almighty. One of them is by worshiping such as praying, reading the Quran, dhikr, and prayer. By establishing a strong relationship with Allah SWT through worship, one can strengthen one's relationship with Allah SWT. In addition, maintaining relationships with fellow Muslims and other creatures of Allah is also part of the vertical relationship that is the relationship of ubudiyah to Allah (hablumminallah). In the Quran it is also mentioned that the Quran was revealed with two purposes, namely to gain new understanding and get out of the state of neglect and forgetfulness. Therefore, reading and memorizing the Quran can also help a person to build himself to remember and be aware, as well as strengthen his relationship with Allah SWT (QS. Shad (38), verse 29). Â In addition, maintaining communication with Allah SWT through prayer can also get closer or unite with God Almighty.
3). Finding the Depth of Spirituality through Fasting Activities
Through fasting activities, one can discover the depth of one's spirituality. In fasting, one is required to restrain one's passions and control oneself, so as to help one to recognize oneself and discover deeper spiritual values.
Fasting that can cultivate spiritual intelligence is not only fasting that is simply done by the human body only by withholding food, drink and intercourse within a specified time, but more than that fasting that involves the heart, and maintains all passions. In addition, fasting can also be a therapy for psychological symptoms and help a person to increase faith and determination in the face of life's difficulties. In the Quran it is also mentioned that the Quran was revealed with two purposes, namely to gain new understanding and get out of the state of neglect and forgetfulness. Therefore, reading and memorizing the Quran can also help a person to build himself to remember and be aware, as well as strengthen his relationship with Allah SWT. By strengthening one's relationship with Allah Almighty through worship such as prayer, reading the Quran, dhikr, and prayer, one can discover the depth of spirituality and strengthen one's relationship with Allah Almighty. Based on QS. Shad (38) verse 29, the Qur'an was revealed with two purposes: (1) tadabur, i.e. to gain new understanding and (2) tadzakur, i.e. to get out of the state of neglect and forgetfulness. So, when we read and memorize the Quran it is not only to acquire new knowledge and direction, but also to build ourselves up to remember and be aware.
