How often we heard about, treat people like you want to be treated? A lot.
Yeah, we heard that (and doing so) because we want others treat us like we treat them.
Who wants received bad treatment? No one. So, in order to not get any bad treat, then we don't do something bad.
And this is how you think:
If we good to them, we expect them to do the same.
If we help them, we expect, someday, they will also help us in return.
Or, they should be good to us too.
We don't want to be treated badly, so we follow that quotes. Don't do something bad to people, then people won't do something bad. What causes? Cause we do treat them like we wanna be treated.
There's no reason for them to treat us bad.
But, think again.
Why is it always "me" or "us"?
Why is it "I" and "we"?
Once I read a very good book.
Forgot the title but I always remember what the author said:
Treat someone like THEY want to be treated.
There's no further statement.
No phrase like, "So, they will treat us nicely."
It's only about them.
It's true by the way.
A quarter century of life, I know that is true.
Why we must treat people like WE want to be treated?
Do they have the same interests with us?
Do they have the same character with us?
Do they have the same background with us?
Do they have the same meaning of happiness with us?
No, they don't.
Their likes as not similar as ours.
Their happiness as not same as ours.
What if their definition of success is to be useful for other people (not about the money), while yours is can buy anything you want, while yours is have all of money over the world. Why do you laugh at what makes them happy?
They don't even ask your money to build their success.
If we like to travel the world with our spouse.
They might like to travel the world with the whole family, with their spouse, their parents, their brother and sister in law, and their brother.
So, why you treat them as they were you?
Maybe you love to culinary, but they probably love scenery.
Then, why you always ask them for following just because you think they also love it? They like it, too, but why don't you think that they want really bad to enjoy landscape too?
Perhaps they love to staycation for holiday. Why do you insists to take them out just because you think they'll like it like you do?
What if their meaning of happiness is to gather with all of their beloved people, instead of you bought them all of jewelry you can buy.
Yes, why?
Our happiness as not the same as them.
If you want to make them happy, make it as their own way, not you.
If their happiness is your goal, just focusing on them, not you.
Therefore, don't treat them like you want to be treated.
Treat them like THEY want to be treated.
Because it's about them, not you.
