CARA MUDAH MENULIS DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
Menulis teks deskriptif merupakan salah satu keterampilan berbahasa Inggris yang penting. Melalui aktivitas menulis teks deskriptif seseorang dapat mengungkapkan opini, perasaan, ide, pendapat dan gambarannya tentang suatu benda, orang, tempat, hewan, dan lain-lain.

Definisi
What is descriptive Text?
Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing
Teks deskriptif merupakan suatu bentuk teks yang bertujuan memberikan gambaran tentang suatu benda, tempat, orang atau binatang yang tertentu secara detail dan jelas. Teks deskriptif kebanyakan berupa opini atau pendapat secara pribadi.
Generic Structure (Struktur)
Untuk membuat teks deskriptif yang baik dan benar, kita mesti mengikuti struktur dan kaidah kebahasaannya.
1. Identification
Identification is an intruduction to the object, people, place or animal we want to describe. In this section we convey general information about something that we will describe.
Untuk memudahkan menulis identification, gunakan pertanyaan-pertanyaan untuk menggali gagasan dengan menggunakan kata tanya: (what/who/when/where/why/how)
Misalnya kita akan menulis tentang kucing kesayangan kita.
(who) Who does the cat belong to? I have a cat. (what) What is it name? Its name is Jena. (How) How did you get the cat? The cat was my birthday present from my mother. (Why) Why do you love your cat? Because Jena is cute and obedient.
Maka kita tulis dan urutkan jawaban-jawaban tersebut. Naah, jadilah sebuah Identification sebagai berikut:
“I have a cat. Its name is Jena. The cat was my birthday present from my mother. I love Jena, because it is very cute and obedient.”
2. Description
In this section, we provide a detailed information of the object, people, place or animal we will describe. If you want to describe an object, observe the size, color, shape, function, material.
Size : big, small, long, short, extra large Color : red, blue, yellow, white Shape : round, rectangle, square Function: to display, to record, to cut, to erase Material : iron, wood, paper, cotton, plastic
Example:
“My new diary is A5 size. The cover is thick, pink colour and has a picture of a lily. The papers inside are white and pink. There are 100 pieces blank pages. Every 25 pages, there is a colourful paper as a marker. This book also has a red long ribbon as bookmark.”
To describe people or animal, observe their appearance, character and personality, feelings & emotions:
Appearance: tall, slim, fair skin, black hair, oval face, pointed nose, beautiful, smart, etc Character and personality: friendly, generous, diligent, polite, dan sebagainya. Feelings and emotion: perasaan dan emosi. Seperti: angry, sad, desperate, disappointed, etc
Example:
“Stella is about 150 cm tall and has slim body. Her hair is black, short and curly. She has black and healthy skin. She is sweet, friendly, generous and helpful. We all love Stella.”
2. Language Feature (Kaidah Kebahasaan)
Untuk membuat tulisan berbentuk deskriptif perlu memperhatikan unsur kebahasaan sebagai berikut:
a. Specific Participant Dalam teks deskriptif, hanya benda, orang, tempat atau hewan tertentu yang digambarkan. Ini yang disebut sebagai specific participant. Misalnya, ingin menceritakan tentang kucing kesayangan atau tas baru kita, maka hanya kucing dan tas baru kita sajalah yang digambarkan. Bukan kucing dan tas pada umumnya.
b. Penggunaan Simple Present Tense Salah satu kegunaan kalimat berbentuk Simple Present Tense adalah untuk menunjukkan fakta dan kebiasaan. Dalam teks deskriptif, khususnya pada bagian description, banyak digunakan kalimat-kalimat berbentuk tense ini.
Contohnya:
-My cat is cute and smart -It has four legs and a long tail. -I love my cat very much.
c. Penggunaan Action verb Kata kerja aksi ialah kata yang menyatakan proses, perbuatan, pekerjaan yang dilakukan subjek. Contoh action verb: walk, cook, watch, swim, write
d. Adjective/Kata Sifat Kata yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan keadaan atau sifat noun (kata benda) atau pronoun (kata ganti). Contoh adjective: happy, shiny, soft, beautiful, smart
Contoh descriptive text:
Stella is a new student in my class. She comes from a small town in eastern Indonesia, namely Maumere. When she first appeared at the classroom, she blew us away. She looks different. Stella is about 150 cm tall and has slim body. Her hair is black, shoulder lenght and curly. She has black and healthy skin. She has oval face, beautiful wide eyes with curly eyelashes and a pointed nose. Stella makes friends easily. Her friends not only classmates but also from other classes. She always polite and respectful to everyone. She is an easy going person, friendly, funny and helpful. We all love Stella.
