6 Effective Ways to Stop Having Negative Thoughts

Are you tired of negative thoughts?

Always thinking of your imperfections?

Spending hours telling yourself how worthless you are?

And comparing your life to others?

Most of us have developed a pattern of overthinking. Breaking this pattern and getting out of the chains of negative thoughts seems like an impossible task but it can be achieved by practicing positive things and various other methods. Negative thoughts can drain your emotions and keep you from enjoying the moments and experiences in your daily life. This can distract you from the present, drain your energy and make you feel anxious and depressed all the time.

Therefore, it is important to tackle this problem and solve it once and for all. Here are 6 useful ways to stop yourself from having negative thoughts and overcome overthinking:

1. Notice your body language.

You can ask yourself such as are you grinding your teeth or are your muscles and shoulders tense. This is important, because your body can tell you a lot about your mental state. Relax your body, and then you can calm your mind.

2. Use affirmations.

Affirmations are statements that you tell yourself to motivate, and influence your mind and body. I tell myself affirmations everyday. You can look these up online, or buy a daily affirmation book and read one, repeating it throughout the day.

Examples of these are

"I welcome positivity in my life."

"Today is a new day and a new opportunity."

3. Know your triggers.

Pay attention to what affects your thinking. I personally sat down and wrote everything I believed to trigger my negativity and then did something about it. You can stayed away from them who no good to your thinking, distract yourself, watch a funny video, and play a video game.

4. Find a trustful person.

It can be a friend, partner, parent, or teacher. Anyone who is willing to listen to you and give you their point of view. This has helps diminish your negative thoughts.

5. Self talk using a mirror.

This one may be silly. But you can try it, I have the confidence to overcome stressful thoughts.

Look at yourself in the mirror, and tell yourself good things like: "I am beautiful" or "It will all be okay." You may find it powerful to look yourself in the eyes and have a good talk.

6. Don't apply your perspectives to someone else.

This one is very important. Each of us has different perspectives and ways of handling situations. If you can change your perspectives, you will be able to relax more.

Keep in mind that your thinking won't change quickly. It will take time and discipline. If you feel like your mental health is getting worse due to negative thoughts, then maybe a counselor or therapist can help you as well.
