In daily conversations of course we use our mother tongue language such as telling something to the people around us. Usually we use language that is quite formal but sometimes we will use our mother tongue in conveying messages or communicating with people.
In this case, we will discuss the language switch or code switch used by the teacher to the students or vice versa while in the classroom. Usually this also happens to students when they present or when interacting with the teacher during class, this happens perhaps to refer to what is being discussed to make it clearer.
Most teachers/lecturers when teaching in the classroom always use very standard or formal language and sometimes they will switch to language that is easily understood by students such as mother tongue or daily language that can help students understand.
Code switching is a language that we use in conversation or say something by changing the language we use or formal language to a more specific language depending on the context being discussed. In learning starting from elementary, junior high, high school and even college in various subjects, this language switching code is always used to give students the ability to learn.
The use of code switching In this case the use of code switching is very necessary in classroom learning such as.
1. Makes students active
In learning will be more active when we as a teacher to explain a teaching material by inviting them to talk about the topic of learning. Not only based on teaching materials but we interact with students to better understand such as giving examples using the daily language they use that will make them respond back and make students active in the classroom.
2. Â Increase students' understanding of learning
With this they will understand when the teacher not only uses formal language when explaining but switches to everyday language that they understand what more elementary students they will look confused, and with this transition students become very understanding in understanding the context of learning, especially language learning.
3. Making learning fun
With this also the class will feel fun and not boring. We will share stories with children as well as students they will be more open to interacting with teachers or peers. This will make students give a good impression on a teacher where the teacher is baidan also special to them when teaching.
Code Swithcing is always used and must be used to improve students' understanding in general learning or any learning they learn. However, we must pay attention to things that must be considered when using terms in conversations with students that will be easily imitated by them. As a teacher, you must know how to elaborate the language used when interacting with students.
With this matter, it is not only about increasing students' understanding but also making students feel comfortable being active in the classroom, making the class not seem boring, especially in elementary school. We as teachers will be viewed by students with great pleasure because when we are in the classroom it is very exciting and fun to make the atmosphere of the class seriously learning while interacting with students which makes the classroom atmosphere very pleasant.
