Wailing Wave - A poem by Vivi Wahyuni

In the sea of loss, waves of lament

Crashing against my ship, the soul is torn apart

The night is silent, the stars weep

I'm tossed about, heart ripped away

The blue sea is a widow

Wearing a gown of sorrow, returning love

With storms and waves of rage

Punishing me, a wounded soul

Its depths are infinite,

Marianna's Trough of sorrow

Swallowing hope, deepening the wound

I fall, into the darkness

On the sea of eternity, I am forgotten

My ship, a skeleton of bones

Battered by the storm, a life lost

I hold the helm, prayers are cut off

On the sea of loss, love is separated

Vivi Wahyuni is a student of English Department (2021 entry year), Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Padang. When writing this poem, the author was taking British Literature course. The poem written by Vivi was inspired by the text of a poem entitled "The Seafarer" by Anonymousb read on the owleyes website (https://www.owleyes.org/text/seafarer/read/text-poem ).
