The Importance of a Hydrated Body During Ramadhan

The month of Ramadan is the month in which Muslims fast from before sunrise to sunset, we all hold back our lust and anger. As we know that body fluids during fasting will definitely decrease, several contributing factors are among the many activities we do outdoors or indoors. It is not uncommon for body fluids to decrease during these activities, such as indoors using air conditioning can cause dry skin or when outdoors, the sun can also absorb our body fluids.

The function of fluids in the body, among others :

1. Regulate body temperature

Often when we fast, we feel our body temperature increase at certain times, it is because the water level in the body decreases.

2. Hydrated skin

As I said above, if we fast and work under a room that uses air conditioner, without us realizing it, body fluids will be absorbed and evaporated, as a result, the skin will feel dry and tired quickly. Just like a gallon of water which will quickly run out if it is in the room due to the influence of air temperature.

3. One source of energy in the body

Almost 70% of the composition in the body consists of fluids, if we lack of fluids in the body it will affect the energy level in the body. As a result, the body will feel weak and powerless.

4. Brain performance

Fluid in the body can also affect the performance of the brain, when we lack of fluids, it will be difficult for us to think, focus and have difficulty concentrating.

On the last point, brain performance is very important for the body because we always use brain performance every day, whether for work, college or many other things. It is often found that people who are fasting speak inappropriately on the topic or have difficulty concentrating on one particular thought. That's what we always think is normal, we understand each other, this is very interesting because it affects how we behave, remembering that fasting is not holding back hunger and thirst but also holding back anger.

Therefore, it is very important for us to be able to meet the body's need for fluids during fasting so that our bodies stay hydrated. To prevent dehydration (lack of fluids in the body) there are several ways that we can keep fluids in the body, such as:

1. Doing 2-4-2

As we already know that we have to drink 8 glasses a day, therefore to manage it we have to apply the 2-4-2 principle which means 2 glasses at dawn, 4 glasses after breaking the fast and 2 glasses before going to bed, try to drink mineral water.

2. Avoid excessive exercise

Doing exercise is very important for the body, but when fasting, avoid excessive exercise to prevent dehydration. Light exercise such as jogging or walking within a certain distance can be a solution for light exercise.

3. Consumption of fruits

Why don't I write iftar with sweet foods like compote and others? Because later we will be full quickly even though sweet foods can restore insulin levels in our body but sweet foods can also cause dehydration. To restore lost body fluids, fruits can be the right choice.
