The Theme and The Costume

This year, the Met Gala turned its 76th anniversary with the theme "The Garden of Time" inspired by J.G Ballard's story, where a count and his wife live glamorously in their private villa gated by flowers afar from the world. Celebrities attended this event wearing opulent clothing that cost thousands of dollars and polished by eccentric makeup, while people out there are suffering and protesting about what is happening in Rafah, Palestine. It sounds familiar, doesn't it?

A quick recall of The Hunger Games film, 'The Rich' who live in The Capitol also wear similar outfits to what they wore at the Met Gala. Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Lizzo, and Sarah Jessica Parker are some of the celebrities who you can spot the resemblance. 

Social Ignorances

The Met Gala 2024 took place at the same time as the only safe zone for 1.7 million Palestinians was assaulted by Israeli forces. Other than that, college students across the USA have been arrested for speaking out their Pro-Palestine voice along with a demonstration that was only a mile away from the event. 

Meanwhile, in The Hunger Games, those who suffer, also known as 'The Poor' live an unfortunate life outside The Capitol. They have to fight for food. Even worse, there are wars across the districts that end up in genocide.
