SUPER: WEEKS AGO

INT. KOREAN RESTAURANT - NIGHT

A PAIR OF HANDS are folded in the lap.
MIMI sits at the table.
She's DRESSED TO KILL.
Across from her is Jack.
A WAITRESS is standing by.

                                                        JACK
                                                (to waitress)
                               I want tofu with spicy ketchup.
                                                   (to MIMI)
                               What do you want?

                                                       MIMI
                                                    (to him)
                               I want breakup.

Jack's and the waitress' jaws DROP on the table.

                                                  WAITRESS
                                                      (nods)
                               Whenever you're ready--

She FLEES the scene.

                                                        JACK
                                               (in Mandarin)
                               You wanna be with him...

                                               (in Mandarin)
                               Every day.

                                                        JACK
                                              (in Mandarin)

                                               (in Mandarin)
                               Jack, I don't care if your father

He RAISES his eyes.

She GETS UP.
NODS to him.

INT. TABLE TENNIS CLUB, FOUNTAIN VALLEY - NIGHT

MOMO's lips touch MIMI's left ear.

                                                      MOMO
                                                  (whispers)
                               Where's the tiger mama I used
                               to know?!

SLOW MOTION:

Suddenly, she HUGS him tight.
He HUGS her tight.
Her lips TOUCH his right ear.

                                                       MIMI
                                          (whispers in tears)
                               Tiger mama is desperate for
                               her tiger papa. MOMO, I missed
                               you so bad. I want you by my
                               side...

END SLOW MOTION.

INT. JACK'S WHITE TESLA SUV - NIGHT

Holding her iPhone and ping-pong bag, MIMI hops in.
Jack LEANS IN to kiss her.
She TURNS AWAY.

                                               (in Mandarin)
                               I have philemaphobia--

                                                        JACK
                                               (in Mandarin)
                               Kissing phobia? No wonder.
                               I thought you're just shy.

                                                       MIMI
                                              (in Mandarin)
                               I never kissed anyone.

INT. MIMI'S ROOM - NIGHT

Her mother's face appears on the iPhone.

                                           MIMI'S MOTHER
                                               (in Mandarin)
                               MIMI, have you eaten yet?

MIMI grins.

                                                       MIMI
                                     (whispers in Mandarin)
                               Ma, tomorrow he'll be mine
                               forever...

                                           MIMI'S MOTHER
                                              (in Mandarin)

MIMI covers her shy smile.

                                                       MIMI
                                     (whispers in Mandarin)

                                                  (whispers)
                               I will ask him at the beach--

MOMO and MIMI stand face to face.

                               power.

                               exist.

                               for our happiness.

INT. AIRBNB MIMI'S ROOM - DAWN

MIMI wakes up in her cami pajamas.
Sits on her bed.
Stretching and yawning.

INT. AIRBNB FAMILY ROOM

She steps out.
Finds MOMO sleeping on the couch.
His BLANKET is on the floor.
SMILING, she tucks him in.

INT. AIRBNB FAMILY ROOM - DAY

MOMO steps out of his room.

                                                  MIMI (O.S.)
                               Ohayo...

His eyeballs ROLL UP and DOWN.
And UP again.
MIMI's face shines like the sun in the morning.
Wearing her red YUKATA.
And her PING-PONG SHOES.

EXT. MISSION DRIVE, SOLVANG - DAY

In her yukata, MIMI walks around downtown with MOMO.
Eating ice cream.
Shopping.
HAND IN HAND, crossing the street.
People smile and WAVE to her.

INT. HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN MUSEUM, SOLVANG

MOMO and MIMI enter together.
Smiling, read a book together.
She becomes the center of attention for VISITORS.

EXT. GAS AND FOOD MART - NIGHT

MOMO opens MIMI's door.
Smiling, offers her a hand.
Smiling, she takes his hand.
He wraps his arm around her waist.
HAND IN HAND, they walk inside.

INT. MOMO'S CAR - NIGHT

He's sleeping in his reclined seat.
She's WATCHING and smiling.
In slow motion, BRINGS her face closer.
Her lips TOUCH his right eye.

EXT. MIMI'S PORCH - NIGHT

MOMO carries sleeping MIMI in her yukata.

INT. MIMI'S ROOM

She's asleep in bed.
On the floor, MOMO's watching the sleeping beauty and smiling.
In slow motion, BRINGS his face closer.
His lips TOUCH her right eye.

INT. JAPANESE RESTAURANT, LOS ANGELES - NIGHT

MOMO and MIMI eat ramen.
Three smiling waitresses in yukata come up.
Give MIMI a nod.
Sing "Happy Birthday" in Japanese to her.
Singing along, MOMO smiles to her.
It's all SMILES and BLUSHES on her face.

                               They're beautiful...

                                                      MOMO
                               Happy birthday, tanjoubi 
                               omedetou, shengri kuaile,
                               MIMI...

                                                       MIMI
                               You remembered...

                                                      MOMO
                                                     (smiles)
                                What is it about you that I
                                don't remember?

She turns away.
SMILING SHYLY.

                                                      MOMO
                               Welcome to the club, MIMI.
                               Now you're a young adult.

                               Young adult?

He nods.

                                                      MOMO
                                                  (whispers)
                               In America, as a young adult,
                               you can drink alcohol, go to
                               strip clubs, and last but not least...

Frowning, she BRINGS her face closer.

                                                  (whispers)
                               Watch adult movies, legally!

They're both GRINNING and BLUSHING.

                               MOMO, you're flirting with
                               me...

                                                      MOMO
                               No I'm not.

                                                       MIMI
                                         (points to his nose)

                                          (points to her lips)
                               Yes you are--

They STARE at each other.
Pointing to each other's face, they chuckle together.

INT. MIMI'S ROOM - NIGHT

Her mother's onscreen.
RED-FACED.

                                           MIMI'S MOTHER
                                               (in Mandarin)
                               Where in the world does a mother
                               let her child spend the night with
                               a stranger?! Only in America?!

                                                       MIMI
                                               (in Mandarin)
                               Ma, we will have two separate
                               rooms. I am a young adult now
                               and he is not a stranger--

                                           MIMI'S MOTHER
                                              (in Mandarin)
                               Are you crazy?! You just met
                               last month--

                                                       MIMI
                                               (in Mandarin)

The mother falls silent.
Takes a long breather.

                                You take good care, okay. Don't
                                forget to eat enough.

                                               (in Mandarin)
