Welcome to Toilet!

The readers may say "what's so important for Sonny to write something about toilet?". Well, yeah..What's so important? But I think in this case, you will see some uniqueness. I don't talk about weird architecture of toilet, or sophisticated toilet which is full of technology, or even ancient style of traditional toilet. Here, I will show you some parts of toilet in Amanjiwo Resort in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. - one of  Aman resorts in the world in which Richard Gere, David Beckham and his wife Victoria have stayed for some nights.   Though the toilet is built by modern base, but there are still some characters from Javanese culture.

There are two faces will welcome you in toilet. Ya, they are wooden mask representing Javanese people: man and woman. The man with tall hat and woman with specific hair style reminded me to the image that I see during Javanese traditional wedding or some pictures that I see in Mangkunegaran or Kasunanan Palace in Surakarta/ Solo. Not only for welcoming, the "potential user" of toilet can see those masks as sign to differentiate which toilet for man and which toilet for woman. You will not find simple writing like "GENTS" and "LADIES" or stickers of man and woman black silhouette which are commonly found in toilet in mall or hotel.

Amanjiwo Resort used paras stones from Yogyakarta as the dominant materials of the building with architecture which inspired by Borobudur temple. Including the toilet, paras stones are used there. Photo on the top shows the masks are displayed on paras stones wall.

Wash your Hands!

Entering the toilet area, as any other modern place, you will see washstand. In the right side, some small towels are provided and tissues are in the left side. The Javanese character that I can find here is the existence of roses on a golden cup. It reminded me to my late great-grandmother who prepared it every Thursday night as a kind of respect toward God. Normally there are three types of flowers which are called as kembang setaman: rose (mawar), jasmine (melati), and cananga (kenanga). Here I only saw roses on the cup with the colors of red and and pink. But I saw cananga on the top of soap bar. The soap bar is also unique for me because commonly in modern washstand I always see liquid soap. For me it's like the representation on how soap bar is still popular among Javanese people.

After that, going to the main part of toilet after passing washstand. I saw the door for entering the closet area. So far, it was the tallest toilet door I have ever seen. Because of the closet area is not very spacious, I got difficulty to take picture to capture the image that the door is really tall. Well, the closet itself is normal, standard of western closet. Well, I actually that it was not necessary to take picture of the closet, but why not it's important to make the blog in detail haha :D as you see here...
