Darwin Nunez Officially Goes To Liverpool: Will It Fit?

Jakarta - Darwin Nunez has officially joined Liverpool after an offer of seventy-five million euros from the Reds was received by Benfica. The Uruguayan has signed a six-year contract with Liverpool which will see this player under contract until 2028.

The Reds' decision to bring in Nunez cannot be separated from the possibility that Liverpool will be left behind by one of their flagship front-line players, Mane. This is deemed necessary by the team management so that Liverpool's attack power to face next season can remain consistent. "I am very happy and proud to be here at Liverpool. This is a big club," said Darwin Nunez in his first interview with Liverpool.

So, how will Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool's tactician use it next season? What tactics would suit him? Well, using a formation system with pure strikers is nothing new for this German coach. Although Klopp has a preference for using a 4-3-3 formation with a false nine system, maybe next season we will see a different system. In the 21/22 season, Klopp also often uses a 4-4-2 formation when conditions are deadlocked.

This was exemplified when Liverpool faced Norwich (3-1 final score) at Anfield, and Everton (final score 2-0). This tactic is used to find goals by placing two strikers directly on the field assisted by two fast wingers and two midfielders to maintain balance. Could we see a return to this old school 4-4-2 tactic? Interesting to see next season.

Another tactic that might be used for next season is 4-2-3-1 with Nunez as the lone striker up front. It is very possible to see the composition of Liverpool's squad to use this tactic considering that Klopp has also used this tactic for the 2018/2019 season, a season when Liverpool appeared so dominant by winning the Champions League trophy and finishing in second place with a difference of one point with Manchester city.

Back again with Klopp and his historical past, he has coached world class strikers and has thrived for them. Whether it's with a single striker system or double striker.

During his time in charge of Borussia Dortmund, Klopp used a two-striker system with the Robert Lewandowski-Lucas Barrios duo. This duo succeeded in bringing Borussia Dortmund to the Bundesliga title with a record that this duo played 45 times in all competitions.

Even after Barrios's death, Klopp still often uses the dynamic duo between Lewandowski and Aubameyang. In the early days of his arrival at Liverpool, Klopp also used the double striker system several times between Divock Origi and Sturridge. This duo looked promising before Divock Origi suffered a severe injury against Everton which resulted in a change of career trajectory. It is deeply regretted.
