Hello Readers! My Name is Putu Nita Nugraha Dewi (E1D021115) I am from the English teaching department University of Mataram I'm taking Creative Literary Writing course therefore I am presenting my short story "Yolanda Town Urban Legend"
Jude and Adam have been best friends for years but not even once did Jude visit Adam's hometown so in summer vacation Jude decided to spend time with Adam in Adam's house in a small town that only called Yolanda town. At first, Jude was pleased because Adam's family welcomed him so well, they spent time talking about everything from school to Jude's family, and there was no sign of awkwardness between them Jude was having the best time with them.
But when they clocked hit midnight the situation got weirder Adam's father covered their window with many sheets of cloth and they locked their house door from the inside Adam's younger brother Kevin began to cry and Adam's mother's face turned pale.
Adam noticed a confusing face on his best friend's face and he spoke with a shallow voice almost like whispering "There is a legend about a granny that eats human liver, she walks down the road at midnight, and" he stopped in the middle of his answer before he continued "if she listens to any kind of voice that comes from a neighborhood don't expect to survive"
Hearing his friend answer Jude began to think about how ridiculous that idea but he not saying a word to respect Adam's family, after a few minutes there was a sound coming from the road in front of Adam's house it was like a bell ringing it sounds it was very loud. Adam's mother covered his younger son's mouth, the atmosphere was tense even Adam and his father's bodies were trembling in fear after a few minutes the sound of the bell ring was slowly no longer heard Adam's family began to calm down and they decided to end the day and sleeping but Jude can't sleep at all his thought still lingering at the tense situation earlier.
"Hey about earlier have you seen her for real?" Jude asks Adam with a gentle voice.
Adam lying on the bed answered with a hoarse voice "It's real, there was a victim 10 years ago a woman and her child"
Jude answered, "What happened?"
Adam shook his head and answered "I don't know what exactly happened because I'm still young but I see my parents' terrified expression and that still haunts me"
 "I'm sorry for that" Jude apologizes.
 "Forget about it let's just sleep"
The next day as the sun rose after breakfast Adam and Jude decided to explore the town by bicycle they were having a good time Yolanda town had a unique architecture they visited almost every spot in that small town until they decided to explore the woods to see a group of deer.
"Where is the deer?"
"it should be here, I can see their footstep"
Jude and Adam decided to walk through the woods leaving their bike on the road as they walked, as they walk they heard the bell they heard last night
"Jude we should run!" Adam shouted.
As they ran Jude fell behind and his right foot was buckled and he fell to the ground.
"Run Adam run!" Jude shouted while panting.
"Stay here I will call help!"
Adam ran and as he reached his bike he pedaled his bicycle as hard as he could and ran to his parents, he told his parents about what happened and in a few minutes they rushed to the woods with his parents and some of the neighborhood as after they reached the woods Jude is nowhere to be seen there is no trace of him, after that day Adam felt guilty about what happened he keeps blaming himself about that incident.
Two days later Jude still missing everyone in the city is looking for him they also involve the police in the search for him but it is all in vain so on the third day of Jude's disappearance Adam decides to do a crazy thing. When the clock started to hit 12 when everyone was scared to go outside Adam decided to sneak out following the bell ring, he finally saw it from afar an old lady wearing a coat covering almost her body was walking down the street he felt terrified but he tries to be brave and follow the old lady to the woods.
Adam kept following that old lady until she stopped at the cabin suddenly that old lady turned around and spoke feeling caught up Adam showed himself in front of that lady with a trembling voice he speaks.
 "What are you doing to my friend? Where is he?"
"Oh, Jude? Is Jude your friend?"
Adam nodded as an answer
"Come inside" that old lady spoke with a gentle voice.
As they were inside the cabin Adam found Jude lying down on the couch near the fireplace.
"What are you doing? Are you poisoned him?!"
That old lady giggles "No son he's just sleeping"
Jude started to open his eyes because of his friend's loud voice. and Adam started to cry as he hugged Jude tightly "I thought I lost you" he spoke as he cried.
"Samantha save me" Jude spoke in a weak voice.
"Samantha?" Adam turns around and sees the old lady.
"I need an explanation" Adam looked at the old lady full of anticipation on his eyes.
"Your friend hurt his foot when he tried to run from me" That old lady sat near the couch and she began to tell a story about her past
"My son has a weird genetic condition his body was immune to sunlight it's like he is allergic to sunlight so when everyone is sleeping I always take him outside to see the world"
"So what happened with him? And why do you scare people in the town?"
"I didn't mean to scare people in the town" she answered.
"One day when I was on my nap he sneaked out to see the world in daylight but" the old lady began to tears and his body trembled "As soon my son stepped outside his body was burned he screamed but everything its too late, he passed away in front of my eyes"
Adam and Jude look at each other.
"I'm sorry to hear that but it doesn't mean you can do that, scarring people in the town like that," Adam said
"I told you I didn't mean to scare people" She looked at Adam with her deep blue eyes "After my son died I'm trying to reminisce old memories walking down the street in the evening makes me feel connected with him"
"Then why are you always ringing a bell?"
"it's because I can feel his presence as I ring the bell, I'm sorry if it scares people in the town" she said.
Jude's face turns to Adam as he speaks "Adam, do you plan to tell everyone about this?"
"No let's keep it a secret, an urban legend of Yolanda town" he answered with a grin on his face.
