Indonesia Raya, Something Beyond It

Indonesia Raya is our National Anthem. It was composed in 1928, a monumental and masterpiece of WR. Soepratman. First sung in a Youth Pledge event, a promise given by Indonesian youth nationalists. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="255" caption="Lirik Indonesia Raya dari buku pelajaran lama"][/caption] The philharmonic orchestral version, which has been used as basic official music score for 47 years was composed by a dutch Jozef Cleber born on June 2, 1916 in Maastricht, The Netherlands (was the Belgium region). I found this interesting article written by Bondan Winarno on August 17, 2000. After three times revised by President Soekarno, the Cleber-maestoso con bravura-version of Indonesia Raya approved as the official composition of the anthem in 1951. Actually there are several stanzas of Indonesia Raya created by WR. Soepratman. However there is only one version usually sung in ceremonies. Not many people know the other versions of Indonesia Raya. I think those versions should be more popularized by sing it in more official occations. I read the lyrics are still relevant to Indonesian current condition. In fact, we, Indonesian, should notice those lyrics. Singing the song is like wishing something within it. Indonesia tanah airku Tanah tumpah darahku Di sanalah aku berdiri Jadi pandu ibuku Indonesia kebangsaanku Bangsa dan tanah airku Marilah kita berseru, Indonesia bersatu.
