Global Respiratory Health Alert: Pneumonia Surge in China Sparks International Concerns and Precautions

China has currently having health issue caused by pneumonia since 13 November 2023. Pneumonia is caused by mycoplasma pneumonia infection. Mycoplasma pneumonia is the bacteria which attacks the respiratory system (throat, lungs, and windpipe). Another bacterial that cause pneumonia is streptococcus pneumonia and also the common flu viruses, RSV, and SARS-CoV-2 or the virus that causes covid-19. This virus usually attacks children. The increase of pneumonia cases in China is related with the covid-19 lifting restriction and the winter season comes. Data from Chinese surveillance systems indicating an upsurge in respiratory diseases have been tracked by the World Health Organization since mid-October 2023. Furthermore, on November 22, the United Nations health agency requested that China submit further test findings, epidemiologic, and clinical data from these reported cases, along with information regarding recent patterns in respiratory pathogens that are circulating. China reported no new or uncommon infections in the pneumonia case clusters by November 24. These cases not only found in China but also in other countries such as Denmark and our country Indonesia. In the middle of October 2023, reported that there are 541 cases of pneumonia that rise across the country. In Indonesia, there are 6 pneumonia cases reported since October and November.  Director General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Ministry of Health Maxi Rein Rondonuwu said that the symptoms felt by the patient of pneumonia are fever, cough, flu and the worst is out of breath. Based on the hospital report, all the pneumonia patient in Indonesia has already recovered. The residents are advised to apply clean and healthy behavior such as wearing a mask outside the home (Preferably for those who is sick), washing their hand with soap and avoiding cigarette smokes. It is also important for children to take the immunisation and vaccine dose 1-4 for people who is 18 years old.
