English Conversation: Apathetic Towards Politics

A: Do you always follow the news about politics?

B: Yes, but not all the time. Maybe it's only around 1-2 hour a day I watch the news on TV.

A: What news interest you the most? Politics? Economic? Sport? Science? Or... maybe celebrity news?

B: Any news is good to hear as long as it brings us benefits. 

A: Some people prefer not to follow any news because they think news will only bring their feeling down. Any comment?

B: I don't blame them. In fact, some news are really so bad that can bring our feeling down.

A: So, not hearing any news is the best option?

B: Of course not. Maybe the best thing we can do is to choose the news... not to avoid all of them. 

A: Some people like political news, some others don't. What part of people are you?

B: Neither one. I'm a neutral person. I'm not a part of neither political lovers nor haters. I just follow the news normally.

A: What would you say if some people were apathetic towards politics?

B: It's their right to do so. I think that's a part of democracy. We cannot force someone to do something politically. 

A: Doesn't that sound some people don't trust any political figures anymore?

B: Probably. We have our right to choose or not to choose in politics, right? We can keep the reason for ourselves only.

A: Politics is something that indeed full of either individual or political interest. Are people's voice still significant?

B: Well... I'm not a political expert. I think whoever becomes a leader, there will always be supporters and opponents in public. 

A: For me, political news make me dizzy. I'd rather not hear it at all. Am I an apathetic person?

B: Maybe. I can't make any judgment whether you're right or wrong. It's OK to be like you in a democratic country, I think.

A: Hahaha... yes! I just think whoever wins in political competition won't make any change to me. I am my own guide of my life. 

B: Yeah... but never push anyone to be like you, OK? Just keep your opinion for yourself. 

A: OK, bro. Anyway, do you still believe in any political figure?

B: Hmm... I just believe in myself. But, I'm sure every political candidate has a good will to advance the country and the people.

A: How come there're always corruptors and law-breakers in any government? 

B: It's a matter of supervision and law enforcement. There's no perfect country in this world. Law-breakers are every where.

A: You know what? Unlike many other people, I can sleep very well every night due to not following any political news... hahaha.

B: For me, metal music is my friend whenever I go to sleep... hahaha.

A: Metal music is your lullaby? You're just weird, you know that? Hahaha...

B: Hahaha... No, I'm just me. That's all. OK, see you next time, bro.
