English Conversation: It's a Wonderful Life or a Wonderful Lie?

A: Many motivators say we must be optimistic no matter how hard our life is. Do you agree?

B: Absolutely. My key word is living in simple life.

A: What do you mean?

B: If we want to search for happiness, don't think too much or too high. Otherwise, we'll only get disappointed.

A: Hmm... interesting. So, living in simplicity is your key to be happy in life?

B: Yup. Maybe it's not the best key for everyone, but it works for me.

A: Sometimes people think that living in simplicity means you're lazy and not a hard worker. What do you think?

B: Hahaha... that's ridiculous. If that's so, corruptors will be labeled as hard workers, huh? Remember, it's our money they take.

A: I mean, most people still think that fortune is the sign of success. If you look rich, it means you're a successful person.

B: Well... let's not think that way, then. Don't be a part of "wrong judgement" opinion. 

A: So, what is your description of success?

B: Simple. Having enough money and time to enjoy life. I don't want to be rich but get stress every day.

A: I think the word of 'enough' is very relative. Enough for one person might not enough for others.

B: Agree. It's related with our way of life and our mindset. Some rich people still think they're poor. Ironic, huh?

A: In my opinion, it's a greediness. 

B: Aah... that's a good word. I agree with you. OK, it's my turn to ask you a question.

A: What is it?

B: How do you describe a wonderful life?

A: Hmm... a life without stress and worry.

B: You didn't mention anything about money or fortune.

A: I didn't because... hahaha, I think I agree with you, a simple life sometimes is a good life.

B: Well, it's your own decision. I never told you to agree with me. 

A: I know. However... poverty, crimes, natural disasters, unfair society, etc, might ruin our perception of wonderful life.

B: Yes, but it doesn't mean our life is a "wonderful lie", does it? As we know, life is sometimes indeed not fair.

A: So, life is actually not wonderful?

B: Let's see life in realistic way. In life, all positive things always come along with all the negative ones.

A: You mean, life is full of ups and downs?

B: Exactly. So, don't be either too optimistic nor pessimistic in life. Be a realistic person. See life in proportional way.

A: Wow... that's very simple and deep. So, the words of 'wonderful life' are no longer relevant, then?

B: It might be still relevant for some people. For some others, life might seem a 'wonderful lie'. 

A: Is it wrong to have such opinion?

B: Well... life is indeed very hard for some people. I never make any judgement for these people. I just feel sorry for them. 

A: It's related with karma, isn't it?
