[caption id="attachment_191360" align="aligncenter" width="600" caption="When you like eating gengsi, this will end up in your tummy!!"][/caption] I spent a long break in Indonesia between March and April 2012, but spent only a very short time in Jakarta as I really don’t like the city very much.During my stay here, I couldn’t avoid the visits to the Supermarkets, as my sister’s house is located so near the Supermarkets in Harapan Indah Bekasi.I only visited the Supermarkets twice, but here I found enough evident to why sick people in Indonesia are in the increase.

Who doesn’t know Carrefour, the giant French Supermarkets that dominate Jakarta’s hypermarkets? You can find this giant superstore in any big cities in Indonesia. Entering Carrefour in Jakarta, is like entering Carrefour in France, the differene is that in France they sell French goods and regulated but in Indonesia they sell a lot of imported goods and “look unregulated”. There are other hypermarket names sprouting all over Indonesia such as Giants, Matahari, Superindo, Makro, and many more.

I grabbed a shopping trolley and strolling along the goods’ isles, looking left and right not because I really need to buy things, but curiosity had brought me to this behavior, I really wanted to investigate the kind of food Indonesians eat these days.In one section, I noticed a huge selections of super noodles. In another section an amazing pyramid of cooking oil (minyak goreng).

Then I passed the fresh meat and fish section....oohhh....aahhh....yackkkkhhh......how could the rich Indonesian eat those quality? They look gross!! What the heck did they put to make it look so yucky? The hair at the back of my neck standing up just looking at these items. From here, I continued my journey (still feeling disgusting), to the fruit and vegetable sections.

In the fruits and vegetable sections, I was truly horrified.....oh so horrified I had to get my mobile phone out and starting taking photos. Oh My God , OMG.....you know, like that OMG you often see in Facebook, means I was so incredibly horrified!! Here I found some vegetables looking yellow, so called “Sayuran Hidroponik” Lebih segar... hmmmm...not as I saw it, not at all. What more horrifying that this vegetable was so expensive too. Indonesian really like things that portray “technology and high class” like hydroponic. Come on guys, just things grown in water instead of soil.

Indonesians also love imported goods, so much so they don’t seem to care what they eat, where it’s from, how they were prepared, etc. I don’t understand this greed for foreign items. I also see that middleclass economy is the most victim of this culture, as they are trying to tell the world that they are rich (grow up!! You are just a victim of unregulated market).

Indonesia has so much to offer, amazing food, amazing raw materials which can be turned into amazing products, organically, but they don’t want to know. I hear people talk about Asam Urat they always blame the fresh organic vegetables for it. I hear people talk about cancer, but no one wants to understand that cancers are in the rise because the food the consumed is now full of chemical. Someone dies every minute from heart attack, because Indonesians think that fried stuff are the best. Indonesians will eat giant and inorganic looking grapes instead of amazingly healthy organic “papaya kampung”.

Do you know what? Don’t fry if you don’t want to cry!! If you serve frying food to your family every day, you are likely to lose them sooner than you think.

I wish I could have Indonesian organic fruits and vegetables everyday here in the UK, I cry to see you guys eating rubbish food, where you could eat quality and amazing food “dari dalam negeri”

STOP EATING TOO MUCH GENGSI!! Do you know what they say in the England? You are what you eat!! So watch it!!

Be proud of produk dalam negeri!!!
