Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English author and poet, best known for his works that include children's literature, short stories, and novels. Born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, Kipling was raised in England before returning to India as a young man. His experiences in India profoundly influenced his writing.

Kipling's most notable works include "The Jungle Book" (1894), a collection of stories about the adventures of Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The book has been praised for its vivid portrayal of the natural world and its exploration of themes such as belonging and identity.

Though best known as an author, Kipling was also an accomplished artist. Influenced by Aubrey Beardsley, Kipling produced many illustrations for his stories, e.g. Just So Stories, 1919.

Kipling's subsequent reputation has changed with the political and social climate of the age. The contrasting views of him continued for much of the 20th century.

The Jungle Book is a classic collection of stories first published in 1894. It primarily follows the adventures of Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The book is renowned for its rich narrative, vibrant portrayal of wildlife, and its exploration of themes such as identity, belonging, and the balance between civilization and the wild.

Overall, "The Jungle Book" remains a beloved work for its imaginative storytelling, memorable characters, and exploration of timeless themes.
