"More policies needed to boost geothermal use" --- Fedina S. Sundaryani, The Jakarta Post.

Indonesia is included within the top five countries with the highest share of renewables in total final energy consumption in the Asia-Pacific region and 4th largest producer in the world and leading exporter of coal, Southeast Asia's biggest gas supplier, and also the largest producer of biofuels worldwide the renewable share in the power mix comes mainly from hydropower plants (around 8%) and geothermal plants (5%). Some advantages of Indonesia's renewable energy policy refer to the saving of energy system by 2023 are estimated to be $15-$50 billion per year include cost of air pollution based on indoor and outdoor, CO2 and other factors.

Furthermore, there are an indirect advantage also to contribute creating more jobs and empowering technological transfers. According to IRENA's project, renewable energy jobs increase and expected to skyrocket from 100,000 to 1.3 million in 2030.

At this opportunity, we have to discuss about geothermal renewable energy develop in Indonesia. The end of 2020, Indonesia's renewable energy capacity had reached to 10,467 MW and by the end of 2021 the Indonesia's government expected to raise total capacity of renewable energy approximately to 11,373 MW. However, Indonesia currently has a hard time for meeting people's business (although COVID 19 crisis is temporarily probably) but it is affecting to disrupts country's economic and social development.

Pre-End of 2016, shocked by two articles that discuss about "Quest for insurance scheme for RI's geothermal future" written by Pak Riki Ibrahim, President Director of PT Geo Dipa Energi, and "More policies needed to boost geothermal use" by Fedina S. Sundaryani from one of The Jakarta Post. Those articles actually are telling about the same things, one when we heard several years ago when the government set an ambitious goal to increase the national geothermal capacity to 7,155 MW by 2025, which would make Indonesia the largest geothermal energy producer in the world. Technology does reduce the risk for drilling and the cost and also time of exploration.

With the whole the ring of fire could be explored with the expected cost being far lower than the $31 million it currently costs to explore and drill in one geothermal working area. By more than 150 volcanoes, of which 127 are active, Indonesia has an abundance of geothermal reserves and waiting to be tapped.
