The Malang State University (UM) lecturer and student service team showed their concern for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in South Korea. They held training in making instant herbal medicine typical of the archipelago offline in Daejeon City, South Korea on 24-25 August 2024. This activity aims to equip PMI with new skills and maintain their health in other countries.
This training not only teaches practical ways to make herbal medicine, but also provides knowledge about the properties of the various medicinal plants used. There are at least 5 types of instant herbal medicine that are made, namely: kunyit asam, temulawak, red ginger, beras kencur and sinom.
This training began with an opening, remarks from the chief executive and PMI representatives, Â followed by the delivery of material and training on making instant herbal medicine powder. Asyrof, as the PMI representative, in his speech said that he was very grateful to the lecturers, students and the entire UM family for holding this training activity which will later be able to help PMIs in South Korea improve the quality of health.
Dr. Herlin Pujiarti, M.Sc. as the chief organizer of the activity, said, "We hope that this training can be a means for PMI to stay connected to their cultural roots and maintain health amidst busy work abroad."
The training held by the UM service team received a warm welcome from the participants. This training activity was attended by approximately 50 PMI people in Daejeon city. Asyrof, who was also one of the training participants, said, "By being able to make my own herbal medicine, I feel calmer and healthier. It feels like I'm back home."
The activity ended with the distribution of instant powdered herbal medicine to all training participants, the handing over of mementos from the State University of Malang  to the PMIs  and a group photo.
