Indonesia and South Korea are collaborating on the development of an electric bus in Bali, Indonesia. The project aims to achieve the zero emissions target by 2060, with transportation as the second-highest sector contributing to emissions. Bali, specifically in the Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan regions, will pilot the development of electric bus infrastructure over the next three years. The infrastructure includes procurement of buses, charging stations, routes, sidewalks, and operator training. The goal is to become a successful model for developing electric buses in 20 other major cities within three years. The electric vehicle system pilot project and roadmap development in Bali is supported by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). Until December 2027, GGGI will assist in terms of feasibility studies, implementation, financing, and supply of electric buses. This is the first cooperation between the Indonesian government and GGGI after 10 years of partnership. The Director of the Climate Change and International Cooperation Bureau of the Republic of Korea supported the development of the electric bus project in Indonesia by highlighting its environmental, economic, tourism, and social impacts. Similarly, the Head of Bali's Transportation Agency praised the partnership and suggested starting the use of electric buses in the Sarbagita area, which already has a sustainable urban mobility plan. In conclusion, given that electric vehicles may be more expensive than conventional vehicles, the government should think about offering convenient and reasonably priced services to encourage people to use public transportation.
