The space in the yard of the house has the potential to be utilized to benefit both the local neighbourhood and family life. Where the yard land can be used to grow a variety of plants with medicinal properties.

Numerous unoccupied lots surrounding the house are evidence that the function of these areas has not been fully grasped by the local population. In order to use the yard as a living pharmacy, it is necessary to receive education from various parties. Because we can utilize the plant as medication or herbal medicine, that is why it is termed a "living pharmacy."

Growing a live pharmacy in the backyard has the following advantages:

  • Affordable, easy, and rapidly provide natural medicine without purchasing.
  • Ventilate the home with fresh air.
  • Support government initiatives to reforest and protect the environment.
  • Sufficient food requirements so that not everyone must purchase outside.
  • Has financial advantages if the plant is substantial enough to be marketed to the neighbourhood or the market.

The Indonesian people have inherited the knowledge to use these medicinal plants to treat a variety of illnesses, including fever, stomach ache, itching, cough, etc., from their ancestors. The Ministry of Health claims that traditional medicine is a combination of elements obtained from plants and minerals that have been utilized in these combinations as treatments based on experience for generations.

If the area is wide enough, this medicinal plant can be grown directly on the surface; nevertheless, if the land is limited, polybag medium can be used to allow for vertical arrangement.

The following are some examples of medicinal plant varieties that can be grown in the yard and their advantages:

  • Turmeric (Kunyit)

Turmeric also has anti-inflammatory qualities that can benefit arthritis sufferers. Our culture can also use turmeric as a cooking component.
  • Ginger (Jahe)
  • The medicinal plant known as ginger is particularly well-liked in our culture, can be used as a spice in cooking as well as a medication to treat illnesses including fever and cough.
  • Additionally, this plant has been utilized as a medicinal component for thousands of years, particularly by the people of Asia and India. Ginger also has anti-inflammatory qualities.
  • Aromatic Ginger (Kencur)
  • Kencur is a spice used in cooking that is also thought to improve male fertility, lessen discomfort, and reduce inflammation. May potentially offer protection from certain cancers and infections.
  • Betel (Sirih)
  • Vitamin C, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, and carotene are all abundant in betel betel leaf, which also contains calcium. The betel plant's vines can be used as decorative plants due to their nature.
  • Lemongrass (Serai)
  • For therapy, lemongrass or lemongrass rings are employed and turned into oil. used as aromatherapy or to cure skin conditions. Additionally, this herb possesses potent antioxidant and antibacterial effects.
  • Celery (Seledri)
  • In addition to having a great flavor, celery also contains flavonoids, beta carotene, and vitamin C. This plant is a fantastic source of phytonutrients, which have been demonstrated to lessen inflammation in the blood vessels, cells, and digestive system.
  • Lime (Jeruk Nipis)
  • Vitamin C, which is abundant in limes, can boost immunity, lower the risk of heart disease, prevent kidney stones, and enhance skin health.

Thus some medicinal plants that can be planted in the yard around our homes which in addition to functioning as medicinal plants also with certain arrangements can add to the aesthetics around our homes.
