For instance, in 2023, Indonesia reported increased use of NLP technology in developing local applications like customer service chatbots. According to Statista, the global NLP market is projected to reach USD 43.5 billion by 2025, underscoring the importance of linguistics in language-based technological development.  However, the digital age also presents challenges, such as the growing prevalence of hate speech and misinformation on social media. Forensic linguistics, which studies language in legal contexts, has become a crucial tool in addressing these issues. Linguistic analysis can be used to trace the origins of messages, identify authors, or even uncover the motives behind certain statements.  
 
 
Opportunities and Challenges for the Future  
 
Linguistics holds great potential for continued growth, particularly as the demand for cross-cultural communication and language-based technologies increases. In Indonesia, for example, linguistic studies can play a role in preserving endangered local languages. UNESCO reports that approximately 40% of the world's 6,000 languages are at risk of extinction, including many regional languages in Indonesia. Through linguistics, these languages can be documented and passed on to future generations. Nonetheless, a major challenge lies in the lack of public interest in linguistic studies. Many people still perceive linguistics as a complex or irrelevant field.
 
More than anything, linguistics is a field that remains relevant across generations. From understanding language structures to harnessing digital technology, linguistics continues to make significant contributions to various aspects of life. In this era of globalization and technological advancement, linguistics plays an increasingly important role in bridging communication gaps, enhancing education, and addressing social challenges.
