Surabaya is not only the 2nd biggest city in Indonesia but also an international city and business center of East Indonesia. It is the capital city of East Java Province and has a population of about 5 million. Surabaya is an old city; the history dated back to 718 years ago. It is also called “Heroes City” for the people’s famous struggle for independence from the Dutch colonialization. Yes, Surabaya is very hot; the temperature can reach 38 degree centigrade.

The motto of Surabaya is “Suroboyoku Bersih dan Hijau” which means Surabaya is green and clean. You can see more plants everywhere and there are more public parks available. The most famous park is Bungkul Park. Many people especially young people visit it. You can do everything there, such as playing skateboard or BMX, browsing-free wi fi, enjoying open air music concert, dining with a wide choice of local food, and many more.

You will be surprised when I say that Surabaya is the city of malls. Everywhere you go you will find big malls with a rich offer for shopping and spoiling yourself. There are tens of malls in Surabaya, and the biggest mall is Tunjungan Plaza Mall which consists of 4 parts, can be easily reached as it located at the city center. Other big plazas, you can visit among others are Galaxy Mall, Lenmarc, Grand City, Royal Plaza, Pakuwon Trade Center, Supermall, City of Tomorrow (CITO), Surabaya Town Square (SUTOS), Surabaya Plaza, East Cost Plaza, Golden City, BG Junction and many others smaller plazas where people like to enjoy during the weekend.
Surabaya has the longest bridge in Indonesia called Suramadu Bridge, connecting Surabaya and Madura Island. It is about 5 km long and costing 5 trillion rupiahs to construct. You can go to Madura Island along the bridge on your motorcycle or car. You must pay 3,000 rupiahs when you go by motorcycle and 30,000 rupiahs when you go by car. At night, Suramadu Bridge is very beautiful for its brilliant and colorful lights with passing boats and ships around.
