I call this place as a place to see a history and a modern life, a beautiful old city which is located in Karlsruhe, BW-Germany. My destination was actually to see Schloss Ettlingen (the castle) but unfortunately the castle was just closed when I arrived. So we, three of us (me, my husband and kid) decided to walk around in the garden of castle. What I could see from the note program shown in front of the main door of the castle, some part of the building functioned as a museum which present the visitors about the history of the city and the collection of local art, and the other part of building used for some other activities organized by the castle. This Barockschloss (Baroque castle) is known as well as schlossgarten (castle garden) as this castle is rich with some different type of gardens such as : garden of roses, lavender, herbal garden, and some others which I forget the names.

I think Ettlingen city was as one of an important areas during Roman times as demonstrated by the type of building constructing, many statues which might be seen around the area of castle itself, along in the pedestrian walk, and some places around the city. Moreover some people said that many artifacts had been found in Ettlingen area.

A few hundred meters from the castle, we can visit the city hall of Etltingen (Rathaus), which of course, is still having the brilliant design from the old architectural building. Behind the Rathaus (city hall), we may see the graphical names of people who were dead during World word, just have dedicated to the people who had fought to defend their motherland especially their territory in Ettlingen.

Ettlingen is some kind of nice and recommended place to be visited. Beautiful alley which is mostly surrounded by many types of romantic antique houses especially along the Alb river. More over this place is not too crowded with the people, so visitors might feel the intimate between the human, the nature and the surrounding as a whole. Not only that, the Shopaholic is also welcome to make a shopping till drop. On the shopping alley, notably as a pedestrian zone (fußganger zone), where people can walk around and entering shop to shop without a bothering of vehicles, I am fascinated by the shops, restaurants, and houses which are mostly still keep the old architectural design, cheered by the colorful flowers, beautiful bridges, clean river and shadowed by the bunch of trees, absolutely, make this place are very cozy for pedestrian.

I saw that the great desire for most of visitors (included me) while promenading along the Alb river was to visit restaurant with the view of beautiful river and or to stop by in the café for a cup of Italian ice cream, just because of they looked so beautiful and romantic.
