In the end, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott sent a letter of reply to Indonesian President SBY. However, the letter did not contain an apology for the incident of the wiretapping. The Australian government only wrote about the importance of the relationship between Australia and Indonesia. Furthermore, after receiving a reply letter from Australia, President SBY again ordered Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa or Indonesian representatives to discuss several important issues with the government in Canberra, including the preparation of a code of ethics and protocols. This code of conduct will serve as a guideline to regulate diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In the case of wiretapping by Australia against Indonesia, the case can basically be made an example by other countries in the world. This case also received a lot of protest responses from the public, both the Indonesian people themselves and the people in the international world. In the world of cyber security, it is possible for a country to tap another country. Not all countries, especially Indonesia, realize this. This is a major preference for Indonesia and the rest of the world, so that a country pays more attention and improves the country's cyber security. This wiretapping incident is a highlight of the need for internal improvements in state cybersecurity, including evaluating the president's security procedures and policies to avoid wiretapping. Based on Australia's wiretapping case, Indonesia should make every effort to improve its cybersecurity and evaluate its security system to prevent information leakage for the crime of wiretapping as it has happened. As a country close to Australia, Indonesia must remain vigilant against cyber attacks such as wiretapping, but there is no need to respond to Australia's wiretapping actions with another wiretap, and it is necessary to normalize the cooperation of the two countries concerned and friendly relations built on the basis of mutual trust and good diplomacy to create dependence and peace.
