On the way to the airport, I accidentally saw one of the rides at Dunia Fantasi in Jakarta. This ride called the ferris wheel. Ferris wheel is one of my favorite rides. If there is a chance, I always took time to try similar rides . This ride reminds me of a similar game that only exist in Minangkabau, West Sumatra. They called this traditional ride as Buaian Kaliang. Buaian means swing. Kaliang means black. My mother said, this Minang version was originally brought by black people of India. I have not found a more valid reference to the history of the Ferris wheel in the presence of Minangkabau country. So, until today I still believe the history that my Mom told me. Buaian Kaliang is a simple ferris wheel made of wood. The maximum height of the swing seems just about five to eight meters. If modern ferris wheel has at least six or seven capsules, Buaian Kaliang has only four simple capsule made of wood. Four to six people are fit in it, even more. Although it looks simple and frail, the capsule is quite strong. Children and adults can enjoy this ferris wheel as long as your heart strong enough. This magical wheel doesn't use machine as a driver, but a human power. The swing needs to be driven by at least two to three people. Sometimes four. This makes it much more challenging compared to roller coasters in any playground. This swing has less security. There has no roof, doors, or seatbelts. The speed of the wheel is depend on the power of operators.

The ride is quite popular in Minangkabau. West Sumatra did not have a playground like in many big cities in Indonesia. This ride always there in every night market as one of traditional entertainment. On market day, Buaian Kaliang and similiar rides will be present in the corner of the crowd, calling kids to ride it. And for you, enjoy!
