Firstly, one of my early obsessions and necessities in life is watching movies. Yup, believe it or not, I've been watching them since elementary school and that habit has grown into a passion that is difficult to live without until now. For me, movies are not just entertainment but it is also a medium to learn and interpret experiences. Experiences that are close to us, but others that might never happen or exist. Nonetheless, in the end, I hope a certain moral can be gained.
Lately, I just realised that I spend countless hours streaming Youtube and googling (yes, googling is officially a word or verb :)) for movies. It's something that I do daily but it doesn't take much of my time. However, if I count it all up, it turns out I spend hours a week on movies. And I don't get bored at all. It's like an addiction that I can't get enough of it. If there were a psychiatric ward for  movie addiction, I'll definitely be a patient there. :p
All of a sudden, the Edison's light bulb in my head went on. Hmm, instead of consuming all of these movies on my own, why not share it to everyone over the internet? Meanwhile, since sharing full length movies can be seen as a crime, why not share the trailers? Everyone can access them on Youtube right? Plus, for me it would be like a documentation of movies that I want to see or have seen. And I do this daily anyway. Something fun to do everyday, isn't that amazing?? The birds are chirping with joy, people dancing around me, yaaaay yabadabadooo ^^
Okay Tiwi, get back down to earth.
So, ehem ehem (formal mode :p), I've decided that each week I will post trailers of my choice both mainstream and non-mainstream. And honestly, in Indonesia, we don't get a lot of good movies in the theaters so I will post some trailers that can be categorised as 'unusual' movies. Since this is a very subjective selection, I think it would nice to give everyone a head's up on what kind of movies I go for. In general, I go for a movie that has a good story and script despite its limited or very good effects. From that, I normally watch a variety of genres from comedies to action, drama, thrillers and many more. On the other hand, there's one genre I don't watch a lot. Guess what genre? Horror. Not that I despise it, but it's just that normally, I can get any message or moral from it. Also, the fact that I get nightmares after watching them does not help my already sleep deprived nights. Yes, in all you can say that I'm just a chicken when it comes to horror movies :D
Every weekend starting from now I will choose or pick 5-10 trailers. Most of them would be movies that I have not seen before.
Okay everyone, without further ado, here is Tiwi's trailer picks of the week. Hmm, I think starting out with a variety of flavours would be nice. ;D
1. Flipped - (I'm looking forward to see this) -
I picked this because of its classic American setting back in the 50s-60s. A movie that brings us into another time and into an experience we've all been through; growing up.
2. The Adjustment Bureau - (I'm looking forward to see this) -
Despite that Matt Damon is one of my favourite actors, I have always liked the notion of playing with fate and destiny. Is our lives really pre-destined? Was there a road map of life that we have to follow? Why? If not? Ahh, even though we never actually know or even grasp the answer, figuring it out is a great journey all on it's own.
3. True Grit -Â (I'm looking forward to see this) -
Again, the idea of taking a different era as a setting has always interested me. The open fields of the south and the nomadic life with a dark story mysteriously unfolding. How will this end?
4. Carlos -Â (I'm looking forward to see this) -
Looking at politics and chaotic outbreaks from the media, is what we see actually real? Were they staged? Is someone out there actually enjoying and gaining something from chaos? That's why this trailer grabbed me and made me very eager to watch this. Hopefully soon :).
5. Freakonomics -Â (I'm looking forward to see this) -
I love documentaries and this one is (I hope) a mind blower. Based on a bestselling book written by one of the smartest men alive. How everything can be viewed through the values of economy like how much is your parents really worth? Well, isn't that just a little too freaky? ;P
6. Soul Kitchen- (I'm looking forward to see this) -
I love food period :D. This German movie tells a story of how an only local town restaurant in Hamburg hires a 'more' talented chef. A crossing between social classes and people with many backgrounds are intertwined in one setting. Peace from through diversity? We'll see :)
7. Black Swan - (I'm looking forward to see this) -
When chasing a passion leads to dark corners. Engaging and very artistic.
8. Before Sunrise- (Seen it and recommend it) -
The most romantic movie of all time (for me). I just love the art of a curious conversation. Simple, deep and enchanting. In addition, what can be more perfect than walking around Vienna as a setting. Simply perfect.
9. Paper Heart - (Seen it and recommend it) -
A fictional documentary where, Charlene Yi embarks on journey, travelling from state to state, asking questions and listening to stories about what can drive us nuts most of the time; yup, LOVE. It's simple, different and heartwarming.
10. Food Inc. - (Seen it and recommend it) -
After I watched this documentary, I think twice on where to shop and what I eat now. Shocking!
Ok folks, that's a wrap for now.
See you next Saturday or Sunday on my next trailer picks.
Happy movie watching ^^
Bye and take care ^^
