What is Global Warming?

Global Warming is the warming of earth's temperature. It's the increase of the Earth's average temperature for a long time. This has been going on for a really long time and it increased more because of burning fossil fuels. But now, they call it global boiling because of human activities that makes the earth's temperature rise rapidly. We are now in a new era called "Global Boiling".

Impacts:

Here are the impacts or effects of global warming.

1. Climate Change: The main impact of it is called climate change. Climate change is a shift in global of the earth's average temperature and weather conditions. Climate change often refers to the rise in global temperature from mid 20-th century to the present. Climate change has been caused by humans because of the greenhouse gas emissions. They trap the heat of the sun. But mainly, because of the use of fossil fuels-coal, oil and gas, factories, and transport.

2. Severe Storms: Changes in temperature cause rainfall and more severe storms. They cause floods and landslides which destroys buildings and communities. It costs a lot of pounds for the damage it caused.

3.  Droughts: Climate change can contribute to drought. Warmer temperatures increases evaporation. It reduces surface water and dries out the soil and vegetation. Climate change is also changing timing of water availability.

4. Loss of species: Climate change risks for the survival of species on land and ocean. These risks increase as the temperature gets higher. Forest fires, extreme weather, diseases are among many threats. Some species may survive, will be able to relocate. But others will not.

Causes:

These are the causes of global warming.

1. Greenhouse Gases: Greenhouse gases release when fossil fuels are burned but mostly carbon dioxide (CO2). This traps more energy in the atmosphere near the surface of the earth causing earth to heat up. When humans started burning fossil fuels, the amount of CO2 has risen to 50% in the atmosphere.

2. Manufacturing Goods: Manufacturing goods also causes global warming because manufacturing produce emissions. Again, because of burning fossil fuels to produce energy like cement, iron, steel, and other goods. Mining can also release greenhouse gases because of coal-bed methane that is released when coal mining.

3. Deforestation: Cutting down forests, or deforestation, can increase global warming because much of the carbon that's stored by trees is released again in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. It causes forest loss and damage around 10% of global warming.

4. The use of transportation: Using transportation contributes to global warming. It releases carbon dioxide that makes up to 95% of all transportations that are related to greenhouse emissions. Examples: Cars, SUV's, pickup trucks, etc. Again, They come from burning fossil fuels for our transportations. 94% of fuel used for transportation is based on petroleum. Petroleum, or you can call it crude oil, is a fossil fuel. It also includes gasoline and diesel.

Solutions:

Now that we've learned about the causes and impacts, let's learn about the solutions so we can stop global warming.

1. Saving energy: Our electricity and heat is powered by coal, oil and gas. We can use less energy by lowering your cooling or heating, washing your laundry with water or hanging clothes to dry them instead of using a dryer. Using LED light bulbs and energy-efficient electric stuff.

2. Walking, cycling, or public transport: People are using vehicles and most of them use diesel or petrol. To help with global warming, walking or riding a bike will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It will also help with your health and fitness. You can also consider taking a train or a bus for longer distances. Or maybe a carpool whenever it's possible.

3. Reduce, reuse, recycle: The 3R's, also known as reduce, reuse, and recycle can help us to stop global warming. We can reduce products by using reusable stuff, for example: using reusable bottle or cup for beverages on the go, using reusable grocery bags and not just for groceries. Reusing by using a reusable shopping bag, or re-use wrapping paper or gift bags. Donating items that are still in good and usable condition to charity. Recycle can help us too. Cardboard and plastic containers can be repurposed. We can use empty plastic bottles to plant flowers at home. Remove the bottle caps from recyclable bottles so they wouldn't break or jam in processing machines.
