- I know what you do everyday. (present tense)
- I know what you did yesterday. (past tense)
- I know what you are doing now. (present continuous)
- I know what you have done so far. (present perfect)
- I know what you will do tonight. (future tense)
Berikut adalah contoh-contoh perbedaan kalimat tanya biasa dengan noun clause. Perhatikan perubahan susunannya.
Contoh dengan ‘be’:
- Who is he? - Do you know who he is?
- What time is it? - Can you tell me what time it is?
- Where are they? - Does he know where they are?
- How was the show? - Do you remember how the show was?
- Why were you there? - I don’t know why you were there.
Kesimpulannya : pada kalimat yang sebelah kiri ‘be’ (is, are, was dan were) letaknya sebelum subject, sedangkan pada kalimat yang sebelah kanan sebaliknya, letakknya setelah subject.
Contoh dalam bentuk ‘continuous’ :
- What am I doing? - Do you know what I am doing?
- Who are you waiting for? - Can you tell me what you are waiting for?
- Where are they standing? - Does he know where they are standing?
- What was she doing? - Do you remember what she was doing?
- Who were you talking to? - I don’t know who you were talking to.
Kesimpulannya : sama seperti contoh dengan ‘be’ pada kalimat yang sebelah kiri am, is, are, was dan were letaknya sebelum subject, sedangkan pada kalimat yang sebelah kanan sebaliknya, letakknya setelah subject.
Contoh dengan kata bantu ‘modal’ :
- When will he come back? - Do you know when he will come back?
- How can I help you? - Can you tell me how I can help you?
- Where will you go? - Does he know where you will go?
- What might he do? - Does anyone know what he might do?
- What should I do? - I don’t know what I should do.
Kesimpulannya : kalimat yang sebelah kiri kata bantu modal-nya (will, can, might, dsb) letakknya sebelum subject, sedangkan pada kalimat yang sebelah kanan letak kata bantu modal-nya setelah subject.
