Uncle Budi Soehardi, The Captain and Papa of Compassion

starting from watching television  while having dinner with family, a pilot was from Singapore airline. He was watching the news of conflict in west timor. He watched the scene on that news which children were having instant noodle a pack was divided for 12 kids. He saw that is so sad condition then he is being moved to do more for them.

for as he was watching, he is touched and moved to help the hopeless kids at refugees camp. He is sending an email to his partners in order to participate helping the kids as a victim conflict of west timor. The situation was very saddening  at that time because of conflict. People were very starving, abandoned, fear,trauma and suffering.

 

 

According to the condition a captain Budi tells his partners via an email then he got the feedback promptly.

Shortly, he could collect some logistic around 40 tons consisting of medications, food and other things in necessary.

When I got the chance to meet him up at mall around Cengkareng, West Jakarta. We will be meeting in third floor at foodcourt. I have been there around 3.15 pm. I call him to ask where he sat at and finally I got him sitting in front of cashier.

 

I am writing this I had met him few days ago, every chance I got to meet every single person, I always take a look some gestures of person's. At that time, very surprisingly I am being amazed, I am meeting him. He is looking very simple not glamorous and luxurious outfit he had at that time althought he is very possibly do it as his profession is Senior Pilot. When I meet him up, he is wearing a collared shirt with a logo Rotary in his left of shirt and also he is wearing a  red sandal. He is very simple one then his gesture tell it as well. He greets me first very friendly.

 

Shortly, we are having a lit discussion in that meeting. I started asking him his track record in humanity project which he has done before tremendously. He was posting some sort of children activities and agricultural in kupang. Curiously I am wondering to know his struggles to get in charged of social work. He starts talking about Roslin Orphanage house which is built in 1999 very harder with some negative rumors  and his struggle to make paddy-field which is almost impossible due to poor land. The land was so many rock. That rock were dried and calcareous. It seems there's no source of wellspring in it. However, he tried his best to make the land having result, his wish to be true, miraculously work by the Grace of God. The paddy were being planted growing higher and bigger when the time to harvest it. Paddy can be 15 ton a period of harvesting. It is sufficient to give away for people living around.

The land was so taken care by himself learning through internet. His wife and him have been really working together to fertilize that poor land, he shown me a video about his wife and him did is to hoe tons of manure for land with a mattock. That manure is very strong scent of bad smelling but they did by themselves with no hiring anyone to help.that manure was bought by himself some trucks are ordered to fertilize the land, he wanted to produce the food for kids and people around by  independent of food to economize the operational cost because he himself has to pay out the cost with his salary even his friends helped somehow.

 

 

Then another chance, I ask him about the children Roslin Orphanage, they do not limit any kids to live in wih them, even there's a baby was left in front of Roslin's house, a baby is just born a day of year. They looked after baby till growth up. While Capt Budi is speaking , I keep my eye on him to see his face and body language, he is looked very exhausted, but he told joyfully. I do not see he had burdens despite I perceived so many things in his thoughts to be working on. His family truly supported what he has been doing and unlikely other support with no action, his family is truly solid. His wife, own children and him do it together with no hoping pay back from what they done.

 

 

The fostering children in Roslin's house were treated as well as capt Budi treated his own children. Fully of love caring. He is not just stopping his caring of love, he gives those children of Roslin's house proper education, he sent them school until college without any term of condition. Some children were in Kindergarten, Primary School, Secondary, and university. He just want yo ensure them future ahead.He really put the love as foundation to serve with a fully of love. Based on he just said, I attempted to ask more , if those children were graduated from school will they get in charged to help others? He answered me lightly," I do not do this for any reason to have a paid back, if they are graduated, they can get back home to their own parent with no paying anything. surely I have been doing this , I am scared to play with God by his blessings upon me , I can be what I can, it is because of God having blessed before through my job as a pilot. If they will be got in charged that bonuss which are God's Grace provided in " he said.

 

I am writing this it's been dawn of morning about 2.20 am. I just contemplated what he had said which is becoming his principles.

 

I surely believe, he is deserved to  be awarded as The Papa of Compassion. In 2009, he won heroes' noble in  CNN Heroes which is watched in the world. He did it because humanity action in west timor.

 

There are some notes that should be noticed, he is brave enough to do that without rethink what he will get later despite he does not think his own desires.

However, he tried how to prosper others. Absolutely, that he had huge compassion that no people had at this present time. The leaders of the nations and we really need to humiliate ourselves to learn from Captain Budi who had humbleness and simplicity. For it is not just words but he did with his family. His simple definitions of happiness is indulging other with some joys,loves then make others succeeding their own lives that is happiness.

Sincerity and honesty in term of doing everything is the best one. Not to do because there's  recognitions, what he had got in 2009. He is a truly man  who is very inspiring people in the world. He dedicated his own life in sake of humanity. Secretly what people do not know is while people slept nicely, he started doing his task it is because he do not want people to see what he is doing and wanting to give the best effort ever tirelessly.

 

 

I just wanted to say thank you so much uncle  Budi allows me to write this article and his sharing as precious lesson about love, sacrifice , humbleness , sincerity for others and humanity. This reminded me that already written on bible " love your neighbor as yourself" .

I need to contemplate it then renew my self to keep on learning and being able to do for others. To end up my article

I wanted to pray for uncle Budi and his family be blessed abundantly, enriched by wisdom of God. Then health and wealth around.
