MEANING OF EDUCATION: ACCORDING TO THE EXPERT

Generally, education is a foundation in life that must be built, with education intelligence, skills, and student skills can be improved. In short, education is a learning process that is given to individuals so that they have an understanding of something and can think more critically.

ACCORDING TO EXPERTS
1. Prof. Dr. John Dewey, said education fosters human inner growth without being limited by age. The growth process itself is a process of adjusting to each phase and adding skills in one's development through education.

2. Ki Hajar Dewantara, education helps all the forces of nature that exist in students, so that humans can achieve the highest safety and happiness in life.

3. Aristotle, education is a function of the state and is held for the benefit of the state itself. Education is a provision for decent work, education is guided by the law so that it is in accordance with the results of psychological analysis.

4. Al-Ghazali, said the process of humanizing humans from appearance to the end of their lives, through knowledge delivered in the form of teaching gradually.

5. Martinus Jan Langeveld, education is an effort to help children to be able to carry out their life tasks independently. Education is an adult human effort that guides immature humans.

6. Ahmad D. Marimba, said that education is a conscious guidance given to students spiritually and physically to form a personality.

7. According to Stella Van Petten Henderson, the meaning of education is a combination of growth, self-development and social heritage.

Law no. 20 of 2003, the definition of education is a conscious and planned effort to create a learning atmosphere and learning process so that students actively develop their potential to have religious spiritual strength, self-control, personality, intelligence, noble character, and skills needed by themselves, society, nation. , and country.

PURPOSE OF EDUCATION

Developing potential and educating individuals is one of the main goals of education.

MPRS No. 2 of 1960, has the aim of forming human beings to have a true Pancasila spirit based on the provisions contained in the preamble of the Constitution and its contents.

According to Law no. 2 of 1985, education aims to educate the nation's life, spiritually and physically.

Then Law no. 20 of 2003 concerning the national education system, states that the purpose of education is to develop the potential of students to become human beings who are faithful and pious, creative, independent, and become democratic and responsible citizens.

FUNCTION
In general, the function of education is to develop abilities, shape character, personality, so that students become dignified individuals. According to Horton and Hunt, educational institutions and their relation to the function of education are as follows:

* Prepare the whole community to be independent.

* Build and develop individual interest.
* Preserving community culture
* Instill skills in democratic participation.
Meanwhile, according to David Popenoe, the function of education is:
* To transfer or transfer culture from one generation to the next.
* Selecting and educating people about social roles.
* Ensure social integration in the community.
* Educational institutions teach personality traits.
* Become sources of social innovation in the community.

TYPE OF EDUCATION
1. Formal education is a type of education that is structured and has levels, starting from early childhood education (PAUD), basic education (SD), secondary education (SMP), upper education (SMA), and higher education (University).

2. Non-formal education is an educational path outside of formal education that can be carried out in stages and in a structured manner. This type of education can be equated with the results of formal education programs through an assessment process from the authorities.

3. Informal education is a type of education that comes from the family and environment where students can learn independently.
