Acara dibuka dengan doa untuk memperingati diva Whitney Houston yang dipimpin oleh LL Cool J. Yeah, Adele, She's rolling in the Grammys! Melalui lagu hitsnya, "Rolling to the Deep" penganyi Inggris yang baru berusia 23 tahun ini membabat habis semua kategori utama dimana ia dinominasikan di ajang Grammy tahun ini, termasuk Album of the Year penghargaan tertinggi di ajang Grammy Awards. Total Adele membawa pulang 6 piala emas dan menyamai rekor Beyoncé dua tahun lalu sebagai penyanyi wanita solo dengan piala terbanyak dalam satu malam Grammy. [/caption] Adele dinominasikan untuk 6 kategori dan membawa pulang semua piala dimana dia dinominasikan, termasuk 3 diantaranya merupakan kategori utama Grammy, yaitu Album of the Year, Record of the Year, dan Song of the Year. Sedangkan ketiga sisanya adalah Pop Vocal Album untuk album "21", Best Pop Solo Performance untuk lagu "Someone Like You" dan yang terakhir adalah Best Short Form Music Video untuk "Rolling in the Deep." Hebatnya, 5 nominasi untuk lagu "Rolling in the Deep" dibabat habis oleh Adele. "[I'm] getting emotional already," "My life changed when I wrote this song, and I felt it before anyone even heard it." (Saya terharu. Untuk genre Rap, Kanye West menguasai dengan 3 piala termasuk Best Rap Album untuk album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy." Ganre Rock dirajai oleh Foo Fighter yang berhasil membawa pulang 5 piala, di bawah Adele dengan 6 piala. Cee Lo Green membawa pulang dua Grammy dari ranah R&B. Melalui lagu "Fool for You" Cee Lo Green menang untuk kategori Best Traditional R&B Performance yang berduat dengan Melanie Fiona.
