John Gower was born around 1330 in Yorkshire, Britain. Whereas the precise area of his birth is dubious, it is accepted that he may have originated from a region around Kent. Gower came from a family of landowners, which gave him the assets to seek after instruction and a scholarly career. His social standing and family background are reflected within the subjects and points of view displayed in his works.

Gower got his instruction at the College of Oxford, where he examined classical dialects and writing. This instruction laid the foundation for his afterward works, which illustrate a profound understanding of Latin, French, and English. His career as an artist, moralist, and social commentator was checked by his inclusion in lawful and regulatory things, which likely impacted his works and perspectives.

His most famous work is "Confessio Amantis" (The Lover's Confession), completed around 1390. Composed in Center English, this long account sonnet investigates subjects of adore and ethical quality through an arrangement of stories told inside the system of a confessional discourse. In expansion to this, Gower composed "Vox Clamantis" (The Voice of One Crying Out) in Latin, which reflects on the Peasants' Revolt of 1381 and serves as a piece on the social and political distress of the time. His prior work, "Mirour de l'Omme" (The Reflect of Man), composed in French, could be an ethical and metaphorical sonnet analyzing human behavior and morals

Gower's personal life included a marriage to a woman named Agnes, with whom he had at least one child, a girl. He was effectively locked in within the political and social issues of his time, association with persuasive figures and taking an interest in open things, counting petitions to the lord. After a long time, Gower withdrawn from dynamic political engagement, centering more on his scholarly work.

John Gower kicked the bucket in October 1408 and was buried in Southwark, London, close to the Church of St. Mary Overie (presently Southwark Cathedral). His tomb and commemoration engravings reflect the regard he gathered throughout his life. Gower's scholarly commitments, especially in ethical and symbolic verse, have cleared out an enduring affect on English writing, advertising profitable bits of knowledge into the social, political, and social scene of 14th-century Britain.
