The Impact of Technological Globalisation on Generational Akhlaq

Technology, which generation has not experienced the development of technological globalisation. From time to time, technology is getting more sophisticated and experiencing rapid globalisation. The era of globalisation as we now feel is where the current era is increasingly evolving in the presence of technology. Consumption that is needed by the community is increasingly easy to reach and does not require a long time span. Even now, in any country competing to develop and evolve new technological innovations that exist or will be presented. Technological developments based on previous innovations are modified to be more modern.

With easy access to technology, there are almost no restrictions or filters for access to use. Even all ages, especially the younger generation, can access without adult supervision.

The globalisation of technology has many impacts that greatly affect the growth and development of a child. Not only among minors, but also among adults.

The positive impacts of technological globalisation include:

  • Trigger a creative and innovative attitude among the wider community in order to compete in the global realm.
  • Ease in long-distance communication
  • The creation of sophisticated machines
  • Ease in Buying and Selling Transactions
  • Ease in Accessing Information from the Internet
  • Ease in Transport Facilities

Behind the access that is so easy to get, there are many negative impacts that result in the destruction of norms and akhlaq taught by Islam. The phenomenon that occurs, many have considered it a common thing. Until in the end, it is rare to find people who care about the cases that occur.

One that is very difficult to separate is related to the spectacle or entertainment world. The shows that are presented, if children are separated from adult supervision, will be very fatal. The world of television is now threatened by elements of vulgarism, violence, and pornography. These three elements are almost a routine dish on a number of television stations and can be watched freely even by children. In fact, these three elements should be prevented from being watched by children considering their psychological condition who are not yet able to distinguish between positive things and negative things from a television show. For example, film shows that contain 18+ shows. Which will have a negative impact on the growth and development of the child. Parents should be worried if their children are more interested in sitting for hours in front of the television rather than socialising with their friends or even with their family members.

Passing on values is one of the functions of mass media. Television is one of these mass media. The function of passing on values is an important one, often referred to as the socialisation function. Socialisation refers to the ways in which an individual adopts the behaviours and values of a group. Television presents a picture of our society, by watching, listening and reading. Television encourages us to learn and act to find out what values are important. Some cases show that television seems to try to impose values and patterns of behaviour on society. This can be seen in the popular soap opera.

Not only on the spectacle, the technology that is very popular in this era of globalisation is gadget. The use of gadgets in children is increasing. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Canadian Pediatric Society affirm the need for limits on the use of technology in children, children aged 6-18 years are limited to using only 2 hours per day.    Children and adolescents who use technology beyond the recommended time limit have health risks. Lack of understanding about the impact of gadget use makes children behave to use it excessively.  Moreover, the impact of gadgets is quite influential such as :

  • Speech delay

A study revealed that the more time children spend playing gadgets, the more likely they are to experience speech delays. This is reinforced by research in the journal EAI which proves a significant relationship between gadget use and children's speech. When using gadgets, children will focus on looking at the screen and not make communication and social contact. In fact, these two things are needed to develop children's language skills and speech.

  • Difficulty concentrating

Gadgets have become a part of everyday life, including in children. According to medical experts, the effect of too much gadget use on child development can contribute to ADHD symptoms. Children with ADHD will have difficulty concentrating because they are too active.

  • Health problems
