The pattern of acceptance of new students has changed, where the reception through a pattern independent of each college should be done after receipt of the national selection. This change also requires changing strategies to attract qualified prospective students.
"Filtering qualified applicants is basically an effort of all parties internally and intensively and strategically to convince prospective students to be able to choose the course or college," said Rector Unib, Prof. Ir. Zainal Congress, M.Sc., Ph.D., when delivering the material in the Workshop on Evaluation, Improvement and Curriculum Development Program on Agricultural Technology Studies Industry Hall Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, on Tuesday (29 / 3). This workshop was organized by the Agricultural Industry Technology Studies Program (TIP), Faculty of Agriculture Unib.
He said also that efforts to convince the public perception is related to, or prospective students in looking at a course or college concerned. Not to mention the existence of external and internal factors of agricultural sciences that are affecting the choice of prospective students to choose courses in the scope of agricultural sciences. External factors identified include agricultural development in Indonesia failed to provide images that agricultural employment is something you are proud and promising, agricultural development also failed to put the agricultural sector as the motor of the community's economy, export and import policies are not able to improve the agricultural sector, and not many agricultural companies that utilize the results of research and development of agriculture.
Of internal factors, delivered by Zainal that the study of agricultural science is too specific, particularly the completion of the study period end of a long task, lack of employment, the gap between lecture material with the realities of life, and the lack of partnerships with the private sector.
Based on the above it is necessary strategies to attract qualified prospective students. Some strategies that can be done is to focus on strengthening internal (streghtening a powerful inner beauty). This strengthening can be done by way of improvement tatapamong, accountability and competitiveness.
Efforts are being made is to increase the quality of academic programs, increased research activities and community service and quality improvement processes, facilities and infrastructure of learning. There should also dikembangkang cooperation with other parties who are co-branding, internships, on campus recruitment, provision of scholarships.
Image building to attract new students who qualified to be followed by the dissemination of research results and community services, imaging study programs to the community, in situ recruitment through the use of PPA as well as track student involvement in inviting high school graduates.
