In this club, members are involved in various activities that not only maintain physical health but also mental health. There are memory training sessions designed to train memory, dance classes that make the atmosphere more lively, to cooking and handicraft lessons that not only hone skills but also strengthen relationships between members.
In this club, there is a special Senior Club school that is held regularly throughout the year with sessions that usually last several hours. This program teaches various skills, including computer training, health and fitness, hobbies such as arts and crafts, and topics of local history and culture. The goal is to keep seniors active, continue learning, and expand their social networks.
In addition, activities such as watching movies together, discussions, and poetry events are part of the routine that enriches insight and strengthens solidarity among them. In fact, this club actively contributes to the construction of a kindergarten in the city, as well as holding special theater performances involving members from various generations, teaching local wisdom values while strengthening relationships between generations.
Uniquely, this club also has a program called “intergenerational delivering generations”, where seniors voluntarily guide the younger generation through various activities. This program not only helps the young people of Gora Kalwaria city in character development but also provides an opportunity for seniors to share their life experiences. They become mentors, friends, and role models, creating a mutually beneficial relationship between the older and younger generations.
Events such as big day parties and theater performances are special moments where the younger and older generations can collaborate, celebrate togetherness, and support each other. Not to forget, first aid training is also held regularly to ensure that each member has the basic knowledge that is important for emergencies.
Inspiration from the Visit
Our visit to the Góra Kalwaria Senior Club gave us a lot of inspiration on how seniors can stay active and contribute to society, even in their old age. Their success in creating an inclusive and supportive environment, both physically and mentally, is a real example of the importance of community support for seniors’ well-being. Hopefully what we learned here can inspire us to continue developing similar programs in Indonesia, which not only maintain the spirit of life for seniors but also strengthen solidarity between generations.
When we said goodbye, we hugged tightly, accompanied by a warm greeting, "We would love to have you come again." As is the custom of mothers in general, they enthusiastically provided us with delicious cakes that they had prepared with love.
