In modernist literature, many authors have portrayed tragic love stories in compelling and emotional ways. Tragic love stories frequently appear in contemporary literature from writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Virginia Woolf. Both were outstanding contemporary writers, distinguished by their exploration of new literary styles, their emphasis on character psychology, and their critique of society's traditional values. A famous author on this point is F. Scott Fitzgerald.

In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald tells the love story of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. Jay Gatsby is a billionaire who believes he can restore the heart of his long-lost lover Daisy. However, despite his wealth and high social status, he finds himself unable to settle his past and achieve the happiness he desires. The tragic love stories in Fitzgerald's work often involve conflicts between people from different social backgrounds and vast differences in social status. In his stories, Fitzgerald expresses unfulfilled hope, disappointment, and despair while emphasizing the complexity of relationships and the irony of fate.

Virginia Woolf, on the other hand, often deals with themes of love, identity, and depression in her work. One of his most famous works is the novel, Mrs. Dalloway". In the novel, Wolfe tells the story of Clarissa Dalloway, an upper-class woman trying to find meaning in her life. She reflects on her love choices so far, including a romance with Peter Walsh that ended tragically due to her wrong choices and a different outlook on life. In addition, Woolf explores the theme of tragic love stories in another novel, To the Lighthouse. In this novel, Wolfe explores the conflict of a family suffering from unfulfilled love and dissatisfaction. A love story between a man and a woman, a man, and a woman. Characterized by a lack of communication and an inability to understand each other, the Ramsays

In these works, Fitzgerald and Wolfe masterfully portray a tragic love story dictated by factors such as social differences, ambitions, bad decisions,  and lack of communication skills. They highlight the emotional complexity of people, the fragility of characters, and the inner conflict that comes with romantic relationships. Her work depicts the suffering and despair that often accompany tragic love stories, and her writing reflects the complex and fragile human situation in modern society.
