Budi Darma, he is a passionate writer. His works are as brief tales, books, articles, and sonnets which have been spread in different broad communications, both locally and abroad, and the majority of them have been distributed. In any case, he is also called an artist, writer, and writer. As a writer, Budi Darma is considered to have spearheaded the utilization of the composition method, in particular the strategy of pasting film commercials and show passes in his works, for example, in Bloomington's People, People from Bloomington and Olenka.

Budi Darma was born on 25th April 1937 in Rembang, Central Java. He is the fourth son of six children who are all of the is boys. Budi Darma had Primary school education was completed in 1950 in Kudus, Central Java. He completed his junior high school in 1953 in Salatiga, Central Java, then he completed his senior high school education in the city of Semarang in 1956.

Budi Darma completed his education at the Department of Western Literature, Faculty of Letters UGM (1963). He also studied at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, USA (1970-1971), then earned an MA from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA (1976), and earned a Ph.D. from the same university (1980).

He held the position of Visiting Research Associate at Indiana University. Budi Darma's name was also immortalized in Who's Who in The World and the Encyclopedia of Indonesian Writers.

Despite the fact that Olenka is his most popular work, He is additionally the writer of a few books, various assortments of brief tales and essays.Prior to composing Olenka, he distributed a compilation of eight brief tales, called Orang-orang (Bloomington Individuals distributed 1980).

After Olenka, he composed the books Rafilus, distributed in 1988, and Ny. Talis, distributed in 1996. As at 2010, Budi Darma has created more than 38 works, a large number of which are accessible in interpretation around the world.

In 14th September 2021 is a day of national symposium to remembering Budi Darma. In this section I will give some response which is the topic of today's discussion.

The first topic I will discuss is the formulation of Budi Darma's short story writing style which was presented by Seno Gumira Ajidarma, M. Shoim Anwar, Triyanto Triwikromo, and Tengsoe Tjahjono. This section will cover the style of storytelling related to the structure of the work, how the style of storytelling and language play in Budi Darma's short story, discusses the pattern of fashion presentation, motifs and modifications and also covers mainstream patterns, domains, and vocalizations.

Budi Darma explained that the first sentence of a short story must be clear. A good literary work, the first sentence must be easy to remember, can be imitated by others quickly. In Budi Darma's work, Pride & Prejudice, Budi Darma assesses that the author is able to make a really strong first sentence.

According to him, only with the discipline of reading a person can make good writing, especially classy literary works. So that the author's insight and thoughts will also be more open. An avid writer will never run out of ideas. He emphasized the importance of imagination in short stories. Seno said how the attitude in the concept used by Budi Darma in making a work.

Budi Darma's writing attitude tends to be frank, which then often gives birth to stories that according to Harry Aveling in the Indonesian Literature House (2002) as "a world of horror, very cruel, devoid of humanity, and absolutely not concerned with logic." writing that brings misery on the other hand also makes him happy. For him, the path of authorship has made him open up about many things, even though sometimes it is only in wishful thinking.

According to him, with his instincts and perception as an author, he can penetrate everything that he would not have been able to reach had he not been an author.

In this wishful thinking, it means that in the story he writes, for example, he should not praise people who are actually stupid, or should take a stand against someone who is obnoxious even though no one knows about it. Budi Darma's fierceness in being honest with writers is not only directed at prose writers, but also essayists and poetry writers.

In "Rebels and Pandai Sudden", he states that Indonesian literature needs rebellious rebels with brains on how to work better and write better. But rebels who use these brains are rare because rebelliousness is not easy by nature. What was scattered, he added, were only the rebels who imitated abstract painters who were not good at drawing, then scribbled on the canvas at will and became an abstract painter.

The last topic is is how to formulate Budi Darma's essay model which was presented by Okky Madasari, Eka Budianta, Nurinwa Ki S. Hendrowinoto, and Much. Khoiri.

This section will discuss about language style in Budi Darma's essay, style of presentation of content and meaning in Budi Darma's essay, structure of Budi Darma's essay, and variety of Budi Darma's essay. Okky Madasari said that according to Budi Darma, a writer must have good intellectualism.

The intellect of a writer determines the quality of his work. One of the things that can make a work bad is that it's nothing more than just a writer's autobiography.

According to critics, Budi Darma tends to place the meaning of intellectualism in terms of abstraction and thinking abilities. Intellectuals for Budi Darma are those who are able to think at the level of abstraction.

Budi Darma does not see involvement in community problems as part of intellectual work. Budi Darma gives clear boundaries between the difference between a writer and a pedicab driver or batik maker. At this point, it can be seen that Budi Darma is still trapped in the romanticism and illusion of the author's position as "the great" and has a higher degree. The realization that the writer is also a handyman is not visible in Budi Darma's idea.

"Those writers who are actually talented and persistent, are forced to not have a good atmosphere for writing." -- Budi Darma

Budi Darma is known as a writer who has produced various works. Starting from short stories, novels, essays, and other written works. He is one of the most influential writers in the development of literature in Indonesia. Budi Darma died at the age of 84 years, August 21, 2021 at 06.00 WIB, at the A. Yani Islamic Hospital, Surabaya, East Java. with the symposium and this paper is used to commemorate the works given by Budi Darma.
