UM Lecturer Team Develops Embung Ngrancah Tourism Through Fountain Pump Integration in Hydroponic Plants
Featured tourist attractionNgrancah Reservoir is a tourist destination for horticultural vegetables that are planted in a polybag using the water absorption area around the reservoir. Tourist visits become crowded during the harvest season such as mustard greens, tomatoes, chilies and kale.Â
The unique thing is that tourists are allowed to pick vegetables independently and then weighed to pay for it, but this tourist spot becomes deserted when the horticultural vegetables have been harvested or many visitors are picking.Â
This condition is often a complaint for some tourists because apart from fresh vegetables that cannot be enjoyed all the time, the condition of tourist attractions becomes unattractive.Â
Managers of tourist attractions and some residents respond to this condition by planting horticultural plants independently around tourist areas using polybek media.Â
Although the planting technique using polybek was chosen to grow horticultural crops, some of the shortcomings were also felt by the managers and local residents, including the difficulty of obtaining good soil, manual irrigation techniques taken from ngrencah reservoirs and requiring a lot of funds to procure or purchase compost soil.
Implementation goalThese activities are (1) Produce appropriate technology in the form of fountain pumps and DFT (deep flow technique) hydroponic techniques for hydroponic vegetables, to improve the quality and quantity of horticultural vegetables for service partners, (2) Provide technical guidance on the use of fountain pumps and DFT technique so that the production of horticultural crops can be increased in terms of quality and quantity.
The service team through the assisted village scheme, chaired by Dr. Dani Irawan, M.Pd, Erwin Komara Mindarta, Didin Zakariya Lubis, M. Ihwanudin agree on the application of appropriate technology (TTG) in the form of fountain pump integration in DFT hydroponic vegetables (deep flow technique). To overcome this problem. These two technologies are new knowledge for partners starting from how to make, how to use and how to apply them, so that partners are very enthusiastic to apply them in producing horticultural crops.
This training presented resource persons from Madani Farm. This activity was also attended by the Village Head of Senggreng and his apparatus as well as the surrounding community who manage the Ngarcah reservoir.
The head of the implementing team, Dr. Dani irawan, M.Pd stated that to achieve the expected results, the PKM team designed activities in several stages, namely, observation, installation of hydroponic equipment, education and training, post-training assistance and assessment of the results of vegetable maintenance. “At this time, we are at the stage of education and training. We hope that after this activity is carried out, the managers of tourist attractions will gain information and skills in implementing hydroponic techniques in growing vegetables on limited land. The participants will then be divided into two groups. The mentoring process will be carried out several times offline and online until August 31, 2022. The PKM team will conduct an assessment of the results of each group's vegetable maintenance, "said Danii.
In his speech, Senggreng Village was grateful that Senggreng Village was chosen to be a PKM partner. This PKM activity certainly provides many benefits to local residents and visitors to tourist attractions, especially valuable experiences for residents who are participants. Experience that may not be obtained elsewhere.
The presentation of materials related to hydroponic techniques was presented by the Madani Farm Team. On this occasion, the teams stated that the hydroponic technique was carried out because of the decreasing land (soil) for farming and public awareness of the importance of clean and healthy vegetables. Hydroponic technique is the cultivation of plants by empowering water as a medium for providing nutrients for plants.
Furthermore, to implement the hydroponic technique as a farming technique, a hydroponic installation consisting of paralon pipes, buckets and water pumps is needed. It also requires tools such as Netpot, pH meter, Rockwool, Seeds and Nutrition.
After the PKM team submitted the hydroponic installation and the tools needed, the activity continued with training with the coordinator. Because hydroponic techniques are different from planting techniques on the ground, explaining in detail how to do rockwool cutting, seeding and caring for plant seeds in rockwool media, transplanting plants into the soil. hydroponic installation and nutrition. Plant care in hydroponics needs to pay attention to water quality, lighting, nutrients, temperature and oxygen.
The enthusiasm of the participants gave the PKM Team high hopes that the residents would continue to care for hydroponic vegetables. This will have a positive impact on making the tourist environment more beautiful and the results can be enjoyed by all residents and visitors.
