Lecturer State University of Malang Helping Productivity Level Home Industry Tempe in Sumber Pasir Village

Encourage the development of Home Industry, lecturers at the Faculty of Engineering, State University of Malang (UM) carry out community service (PKM) at the Home Industry of Tempe UD Tiga Putra, owned by Mr. Nanang, in Sumber Sands, Malang Regency. This activity is a manifestation of the implementation of one of the pillars of the tri dharma of higher education, namely community service in improving the community's economy in the HOME INDUSTRY sector.

This activity was chaired by Dr. Dani Irawan, M.Pd from the Automotive Engineering Education S1 study program, with members Erwin Komara Mindarta, S.Pd, M.Pd from the Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering. Then, Dr. M. Anas Tohir, M.Pd from the PGSD S1 Study Program, Faculty of Education, and included five students who also came from the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering UM.

Where this service activity carries the theme 'Increasing Productivity through Improvement of Tempe Product Processing Equipment at Tiga Putra's Tempe INDUSTRY HOME'. The implementation of this service is funded through UM Internal Funding in 2022, Partner Village Development Scheme

Dr. Dani Irawan, M.Pd explained, through efforts to improve tools in tempe processing, it will have a very large impact on the sustainability and increase in tempe production from the Tiga Putra HOME INDUSTRY. “The processing equipment provided is a semi-automatic tempe fermenter which is controlled by android. Because, so far, the Tiga Putra Tempe INDUSTRY HOME, from a hygienic point of view, is also not suitable for use, because it is made of aluminum plate which is easy to rust," he explained in a written statement, Sunday (21/8).

Furthermore, Erwin as the technical team for making the equipment said that the tempe fermenter provided is made of stainless steel so it is not easy to rust. Other processing equipment provided is a soybean crusher with a much larger capacity than the current HOME INDUSTRI Tempe Tiga Putra. "The capacity of the soybean crusher provided can reach 1 ton of soybeans per hour, while the equipment currently owned has a capacity of 400 kg/hour," said Erwin.

In addition, he said that in this community service activity, packaging innovation was also carried out which aimed to increase the added value of tempe products which had been marketed around Malang and its surroundings.

Erwin said, the type of packaging used so far by HOME INDUSTRY Tempe Tiga Putra is plastic packaging without being labeled.

He explained that the UM abdimas team also assisted the Tiga Putra Tempe INDUSTRY HOME in obtaining a Home Industry Food permit (PIRT) from the Health Office and halal certification, then the PIRT number and halal logo could be added to the Tempe Packaging Label which would be marketed by partners. "Tempe is a traditional Indonesian food that has a million benefits and has been worldwide for that it needs special attention so that its production continues," said Erwin.

With this activity, Dani Irawan and his team hope to increase the productivity of tempe processing as well as packaging modifications and compliance with product regulations such as PIRT and halal permits. "So tempeh products from HOME INDUSTRI Tiga Putra can be marketed not only in the surrounding environment but can penetrate modern markets," said Erwin.

Meanwhile, the owner of HOME INDUSTRIAL Tempe, Tiga Putra, explained that the increasing soybean price was the main obstacle in regulating the size and market strategy of tempe. “I hope that HOME INDUSTRY will continue to survive in the midst of soaring soybean prices and increase productivity. With the community service carried out by the UM abdimas team," said Tiga Putra.

In addition to repairing tools and innovating tempe packaging, the UM Abdimas team also made tempeh by substituting soybeans using red beans and other types of beans. To reduce dependence on soybeans.
