Marlina and The Murderer in Four Acts that take place in Sumba, Nusa Tenggara Timur, also represent the power of women through Maria. The other women that in the end left with his newborn son, by her husband. The story of Maria also ironically captured the patriarchal culture. This film broadcasted in 18 different countries, premiered in Cannes Film Festival (and also be Indonesia's first film that got prestigious subsidies from two Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and represent Indonesia in OSCAR 2019 for Best Foreign Language Films Category.
