D. Domino Effect of the Kamang War of 1908

The shocking Kamang War erupted on June 15, 1908. However, something unexpected actually emerged at that time, namely the emergence of further reactions in several regions. Prof. Dr. Mestika Zed, M.A. said that at the beginning of the 20th century, the Dutch colonialists were actually in a comfortable and calm period because almost all colonial areas could be controlled well. However, it turned out that Kamang showed a quick reaction in resisting tax levies. Then the impact of the community's resistance in Kamang also spread to other regions.27 This domino effect is proof that the anti-belasting movement was actually organized and planned. This can be seen from the emergence of unrest in several other places including.

1. Riots in Tilatang

On Tuesday, June 16, 1908, news spread that a major riot had occurred in Kamang. The Tilatang community flocked to Kamang carrying ruduih and other weapons. They wanted to seek revenge for the incident on the Dutch. But after seeing the chaos in Kamang, where H. Abdul Manan and hundreds of Kamang War fighters had been killed by Dutch bullets, the people who came to Kamang abandoned their intentions and returned to storing their ruduih. 28

A Tilatang community leader named Datuk Palindih was arrested and taken to Fort de Kock. Datuak Palindih's house and its contents were destroyed. This continued on June 20, when a Dutch patrol came to the Tilatang area through the Koto Malintang village to conduct a raid and search for opponents of Dutch policies. However, it turned out that the group being searched for seemed to have hidden their war equipment. However, there were still those who had the courage to oppose the colonizers. This was proven by the attack on a Dutch officer TH. Cherier. The officer was stabbed by someone and hit his hand. Meanwhile The riots are shot dead by other patrol members. the next event was sampono malin, a koto tangah man suspected of being the leader of the rioters, was arrested and taken to fort de kock.
