The 14th February 2019 will be in 7 more days. Raissa, Lala, Eva and Dina are planning to give a surprise for Jessie because she'll turn 19. So one of them created a chat group of four. Of course without Jessie.
"Guys" says Eva in group.
"Yas"
"What's up?" answer Dina and Lala.
"When are we going to surprise Jessie?"
"On the day" says Dina.
"A day after. I'm working that day..." says Lala.
"Oh, sorry. Didn't know that. A day after is fine for me." says Dina.
"A day after would work, I guess" says Raissa.
"Ok, 15th February" Eva decides.
"The cake" says Lala.
"Donut? The store is close to my house. I can buy it after lecture or maybe in the morning before class" offers Raissa.
"Ok, any more ideas?"
"That would be fine" answers Lala.
"Fine with me either. Btw, how much is that?" asks Dina.
"It's about Rp 20.000,00 -- 30.000,00. I don't remember but it's below 50"
"Ok"
"Okay, so we're gonna be surprising her a day after with doughnut."
"Oh, do you guys have candles?" says Eva.
"I have three birthday candles left" says Raissa.
"Can we use that?"
"Sure"
"Ok. Next week"
Dina, Eva, Lala, and Raissa decide the birthday surprise idea. They are going to surprise Jessie on 15th February 2019, a day after her birthday. Raissa will buy a box of doughnut beforehand.
The next day, they go to campus. Jessie is the first one arrives at the class. She asks Dina to accompany her to buy breakfast. So they go downstairs to the canteen. While they are in the canteen, Eva and Raissa arrive. About a few minutes, four of them are in the class and then Lala enters the classroom. Today, the so-called gang of five have a presentation, and they are preparing for it. They have lunch and chit-chatting at recess. After that, they do presentation on the last class and get back home.
Raissa is on her way back home after lecture two days before the day. Surprisingly, she notices that the doughnut store near her house is under maintenance which means she can't buy the doughnut for surprise. She'll tell Dina, Eva, and Lala when she gets home.
"Girls, I can't buy the doughnut. The store is getting renovated. What to buy then?" About a few hours, the three of them reply.
"Hmm..."
"Any ideas? Any other cake stores near you? I really wanna, but there's no nearest cake store here" replies Eva.
Raissa quickly replies, "lapis talas, how do you think? Does she like it?"
"I think so. How 'bout the others?"
"I'll come up with y'all"
"Me too" Dina and Lala answer a few minutes afterwards.
"Ok, so Raissa will buy lapis talas. How much it is, btw?" says Eva.
"It's Rp 32.000,00"
"Ok, 32:4 = 8, so each of us give 8k to Raissa for chipping in"
"Yep, correct"
"I'll give you tomorrow" says Eva.
"It's a must! I'll buy it tomorrow after the class"
"Ok" says Lala.
The next day, four of them come earlier than Jessie. There are just two classes today.
"I thought the class already started" she comes a bit late.
"You always, Jazzy" says Dina. She giggles at Dina.
The day runs as usual. But Jessie gets back home earlier while Dina, Eva, Lala and Raissa are still in the class.
"Ok, let's chip in!" says Raissa.
"Oh my!" shouts Dina.
"What's up?" asks Eva.
"I forgot my wallet. It must be on the chair in my terrace!" Dina hits his forehead.
"Can I ... borrow your money?" asks Dina. Eva, Raissa, and Lala are looking at each other.
"I only have 4 thousand left" says Eva.
"I don't have any cash on me, girl" says Lala. Raissa sighs.
"Ok, I lend you mine..."
"Thank you so much, Raissa!" they go downstairs and get back home.
Raissa now has the lapis talas in her hand. And she sends the picture of it to the group.
"Nice" says Eva.
"Don't forget to bring that tomorrow!" says Lala.
"I will" replies Raissa.
Today is the day they are waiting for. Raissa is the first one arrives in the class. Then Eva comes and sits next to her.
"Raissa, let me see the cake"
"Oh gosh! I forgot that!" less than 5 persons in the class are looking at Raissa and Eva.
"HOW COME?" asks Eva.
"How can you forget that! Oh, man!" Eva seems a bit upset.
The plan they have made goes wrong.
"Class begins in 30 more minutes. Can you go now?" ask Eva.
"Oh yes, you gotta come with me" they walk downstairs from the fifth floor.
"What if Jessie sees us?" asks Raissa on their way to the parking area.
"Think about it later. We gotta get the cake before she comes"
When they just hit the parking area, suddenly someone calls their name.
"Eva, Raissa!" they are looking at each other.
"Oh, that's her!" whispers Eva.
"Chill" says Raissa.
"Where are you guys going?" Jessie comes from Raissa's left side.
"I wanna... take the um, ... mmm, assignment I left in my um... my room" replies Eva in a broken sentence.
"Wait, what? It'll take long. Why don't you just use go-express. Your house is quite far, isn't it?"
"She means my assignment. You know, she just um, gets a bit panic. Don't you?" Raissa hits Eva's elbow secretly then looking at her face.
"Yes, I mean hers. Her assignment. She left it in her room" says Eva in a more relax manner. Jessie is nodding.
"Um, I see. By the way, what assignment? We just got poem assignment, right?"
"We have two assignments, Jessie. Poem and Business English" says Raissa.
"Oh my! Dude, I don't remember. Gotta go, see ya!" she runs away, leaving Eva and Raissa.
"Phew, we were just close" says Eva in relieve.
"C'mon, gotta go!" Eva nods.
Raissa rides her motorcycle home. After fifteen minutes, they arrive at Raissa's house. Seems like nobody's home. They down from the motorcycle. Raissa unzips her bag and ...
"Gosh! The key. It's inside" she looks at Eva.
"Oh, boy! Just call anyone's inside"
"Nobody's home" Eva sighs. Raissa takes her phone out and calls her mom. Within a few minutes, she comes. Her mother opens the door and Raissa quickly takes the cake from the fridge. Eva is waiting outside, asking the rest gang of five whether the class has started or not. Dina says not yet. Then Raissa comes out.
"Has it started?"
"Mm hmm" Eva shakes her head.
"Let's go" she gives the cake to Eva and rides the motorcycle faster so they arrive in campus within ten minutes.
"What a ride!" says Eva on their way back to the class.
"Cool, huh?"
"Uh huh, you are" they giggle.
"They come" says Dina to Lala and Jessie.
"Hey guys!" greet Eva to three of them.
"What a relieve!" says Raissa. In a few minutes, the class begins.
The last class just ended. Lala asks Jessie to accompany her to buy some food. So they go to the campus street food. While Eva, Raissa, and Dina are busy preparing the surprise.
"Gimme the candle" asks Eva while opening the cake box.
"Wait a second, I'm searching for it" says Raissa. Dina is handling the phone. She is chatting with Lala.
"Oh gosh! I hate the signal here. My internet connection runs so slow. I'm afraid they come before we're ready."
"They'll not, relax girl" says Eva. Four of them hope that Jessie doesn't get suspicious. Lala and Jessie are at a dumpling cart. Lala buys dumplings, tofu, and potato with peanut sauce and chili sauce. While Jessie buys dumplings and tofu with peanut sauce and soy sauce. They're having it on their way to class. Lala answers a phone call when they just hit the fifth floor, while Jessie opens the door and ...
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to you..."
"Oh my God!" yells Jessie with a big smile on her face.
"Is this for me? For real?" Eva, Dina, and Raissa nod with a smile.
"Make a wish" says Raissa. Jessie close her eyes.
"1... 2... 3..." phew, she just blew the candles.
"Yay..."
"Woohoo..." the gang of five cheering joyfully.
Raissa gives Jessie a knife. She cuts the cake into two, then cuts the half part into a few pieces. She spoon-feeding them. In the end, they take photos together.
