Disrupted Health Due to Overthinking

Overthinking that takes place in the long term can trigger negative impacts on physical and mental health, namely:

  •  Affects Brain Performance

One of the organs most affected by overthinking and stress is the brain. Stress tends to have an impact on brain health. Cortisol can damage and kill brain cells in the hippocampus. Chronic overthinking can alter brain function by altering its structure and connectivity. Chronic stress can lead to mental problems, such as anxiety disorders and mood disorders. This can affect the quality of your life if left unchecked.

  •  Affects the Digestive System

Thinking too much can cause stress, which in turn affects the digestive system. Exposure to stress causes digestive problems, such as inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and gastric secretion.

  •  Disrupted heart function

Overthinking and worrying too much can harm cardiovascular health. Risk factors such as depression, substance abuse and sleep difficulties associated with chronic worry can also exacerbate the problem.

  •  Damaging Skin Health

Anxiety, stress, and constant overthinking can affect skin health. The emotional stress caused by overthinking can affect or worsen a number of skin disorders such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, pruritus, alopecia, areata, and seborrheic dermatitis.

  •  Suppress the Immune System

Have you ever noticed that when you are stressed or anxious, you often fall sick? This is because stress causes the release of cortisol in the body, which in turn weakens the immune system.

  •  Cancer Risk Increases

Overthinking causes stress and constant activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis impairs the immune response, which causes certain cancers to develop continuously.
