I Must Have been a Book In My Past Life

 

I must have been a book in my past life

For every time I see a book,

I feel like I'm looking at a kindred spirit,

a family member I have loved for a lifetime,

whom I'll continue to love in all the years to come

 

I must have been a book in my past life

For every time I see a sentence,

I feel the yearning to pull it into my embrace,

and to add more sentences before and after it,

so it never has to be alone anymore

 

I must have been a book in my past life

For every time I see a word,

I want to hold it till it becomes a part of me,

till my whole body is thoroughly covered with them,

till I can breathe them and become one with them

 

Yes, I'm sure I must have been a book in my past life

For every book makes me feel belong

For every sentence brings me joy

and every word gives me life.

 

And if I get to choose what to be in my next life,

I’m sure you know what I'll choose to be
