We Indonesians are bilingual people. However, since our official language is still the only one, Indonesian, no other languages spoken by Indonesian people until the end of the world comes. We Indonesians are different from Malaysians and Singaporeans.Although we are in the same diglossic situation like in Singapore, The Phillipines and Malaysia, Indonesian people prefer to speak local languages to English in casual context. How about in writing?

Well, sometimes we need to enrich our skills in writing in English instead of other linguistics aspects (reading, listening, speaking). We cannot deny English as Lingua Franca, the worldwide language. Indonesian people are smart, the need of learning English increases every single day. Public schools, courses, and universities offer the English language programs for students or professionals. For Indonesian people nowadays, I think it is common to use English as a part of your life. Cell phone menus, advertisements, TV commercials, song lyrics, product brands, they are used English, and we are getting used to it. We just did not realize. If you cannot speak, then you can read and write something.

Kompasiana is the best place for all netizen writers from any age, gender, and occupation, to share their articles in any genre. Citizen journalism news, future articles, opinions, literature, sports, and so on. It allows us to write everything we want, anytime, anywhere as long as following its terms and conditions. In my opinion, this portal is the best way to start writing in English, but the condition here is different. You can check the English menu there, only a few of articles written in English. Even the last headline in English was appeared almost a year ago. How come? I am so sure that we can do the same thing in order to make Kompasiana more colorful and diverse in sections.

As a beginner, I would like to invite you, Indonesian Kompasianers, rookies and experts to start writing English contents on Kompasiana. Are you afraid of making errors? Why not? Just make it as a learning challenge, do not be hesitate, there is a room for English here, for us. Having problem with grammar or vocabulary? Just consult dictionaries, books, and of course your friends. for those who mastering in English Studies may help the Kompasianers for the revisions and suggestions. How about that? ;-)

Please keep in mind this tagline:
