Mental health among teenagers still sounds strange or taboo compared to physical health. Mental health is something that is less clearly visible but it is actually as important as physical health.Â
Mental illness can attack anyone without seeing who is he or she, whether it's innocent people, religious leaders, doctors, or anyone else, everyone can experience it.Â
Mental Illness affects many teenagers. According to psychiatry.org, most mental health disorders appear during teenagers or maybe in their early 20s. Teenagers are in a critical period in human development. There are still a lot of changes that happen or occur in teenagers when they enter adulthood. They can no longer be said as a child, but they also can not be said to be an adult. This happens because at this time teenagers are full of social change.Â
In Indonesia, there are still a lot of people who did not understand what is mental health problems. They are not aware of the conditions around them, even themselves. This personality disorder makes it difficult for people with mental illness to know which behaviors are considered normal and not. Moreover, a lot of people with mental illness was afraid to tell their stories to others including their families and closest friend.Â
Teenagers in Indonesia were not really aware of how to respond to people with mental health and it is important to know for the teenagers how to properly respond to it because think before you speak is really affected someone's mental health.
Many people do not realize that what other people say could affect mental health. Either it's bad words or good words it still can affect mental health. Sometimes when people talk they don't filter it, they just say what they want and did not think the effect after that for the others. Even though someone's opinion is very important for mental health.Â
Not many people know how to treat people with mental health problems correctly. As a result, this often makes people with mental illness worse off because they feel that no one understands them. Moreover, so as not to become a burden, they often just stay quiet from the environment or surroundings and hide their illness.
As a writer, I hope that this can increase the awareness of young people towards how to respond to people with mental health the right way and makes them comfortable also speak up wisely and watch our language.
