Indonesia needs a reorientation in building its defense forces to prioritize maritime and air power to anticipate conflicts in the South China Sea. Defense strategies must be updated to take intoaccount strategic environmental factors in the region. The formulation of long-term anticipatory strategies is needed to overcome various possible developments in disputes in the South China Sea. In the context of international law, Indonesia has confirmed its position in accordance with the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in determining the boundaries of its maritime territory. Meanwhile, unilateral actions by the PRC government in determining their maritime boundary claims have raised tensions in the region. Indonesia is trying to resolve the conflict through diplomacy, including through the ASEAN forum. The consistency of Indonesia's political position in international forums is the key to resolving disputes in the South China Sea and maintaining regional security of the Republic of Indonesia.
